Vehicle Description
Stunning Tahiti Coral and Dover white with Black & White leather seats, Black Haartz cloth top. One minor correction (Thanks to my Pal Bob) In the voice over, I mentioned in 1956 Buick had 3 different model lines, Special, Century and Roadmaster. It actually was 4, I forgot they also had the Super model and one was called the Super Riviera. Transmission: Two Speed variable pitch Dynaflow, torque converter with gears Differential: 3:36 Equipped as follows: Automatic Transmission Power Steering Power Brakes Power windows Power seat (6/way) Easy Eye Glass Sonomatic P/B Radio Heater & Defroster Wide White wall tires Wire Wheels Continental Kit In 1956 General Motors had 5 separate divisions, ranked in order from least to most expensive were... Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick and Cadillac I think it only fitting to pay respect to the Gentleman most believe helped to create the modern Automobile, Harley J. Earl. At the age of 13 in 1953, my parents took me to the GM Motorama exhibition in NY and it forever cemented my love affair with the automobile. Harley was born on November 22nd, 1893 in Hollywood, California. His Father, J. W. Earl had founded Earl Auto Works in 1889. Harley learned from his Father the art of coach building and would go on to study at Stanford University. Lawrence Fisher, GM of Cadillac learned of Harley's talent and commissioned him in 1927 to design the LaSalle. The Cadillac LaSalle would become Cadillac's companion Marquee. When Alfred P. Sloan saw the success of the Cadillac LaSalle, later in 1927 he requested the creation of the "Art & Color Section" and appointed Harley J. Earl as it's 1st director. Harley would continue for many years with General Motors and those who realize what Harley accomplished at GM, credit him with the creation of the modern automobile. In 1937 GM changed the name to its "Styling Section" and promoted Earl to VP. In 1939 Harley and his design team created the 1st concept car...the Buick "Y-Job" Harley created the first "finned" automobiles and his "Opel" project later became the Chevrolet Corvette. There are many wonderful books on Harley J. Earl and his incredible accomplishments. Buick was always near and dear to Harley, as was Cadillac. This is evidenced by the gorgeous design of this 1956 Buick 70 Series Roadmaster Convertible. I have had the pleasure to drive this car from W. Palm Beach to Boca Raton and it drives as good as it looks! The stunning two tone "Art Deco" paint scheme of Tahiti Coral and Dover white is spectacular. This car was painted with a "blank checkbook" The Chrome, trim, brightwork, glass, etc. was done to show standards. The doors, hood, trunk all fit nicely....if someone gave you a rust free example of a 1956 Buick series 70 Roadmaster convertible and you wanted to have it restored as nice as this car was done, you will NOT be getting any change from $100,000. That is why it makes sense to buy a car all done like this Roadmaster. Put in the key, turn it to the center start position, and gently press down on the gas pedal and the Nailhead V-8 cranks right up. Let it idle for a couple of minutes to warm up, and your ready to create some great "Garage Memories" of your own. Make sure to bring the wife and kids, drop the top, and life life like it was back in the "FABULOUS 50's" The power options, like the windows, seat and power top all work correctly. I forgot to turn on the AM radio so not positive if it works. I will check it out and add the results to this auction. We would recommend a small modern name brand 160W stereo system with Blue Tooth, remote and CD player. We have had 100's of these systems installed over the past 15 years at a speciality auto stereo shop in Pompano Beach, FL. and we can have a great sounding complete system installed for $500-$600 without drilling any holes or cutting into any door or kick panels. They know how fussy we are with all our vintage cars and treat them carefully and with loving care. Your personal inspection...or that of your hired professional inspected is most welcomed. This car is garaged kept in an air-conditioned residential garage in Boca Raton. We are selling this for a car pal who lives less than 2 miles from our house. He owns the car free and clear, we can furnish you with a copy of the title and all payments will be made directly to the owner....this will be a private sale...not one from a dealer.
