Vehicle Description
Very sharp T-Bird in superb, factory correct color combination! Nicely optioned with 312ci V8, Ford-O-Matic, power steering, two tops, chrome wire spoke wheels with radial whitewall tires, tonneau cover, and engine dress up kit! Very well maintained and excellent driver! Released in 1955, the Thunderbird had created a new vehicle niche; the personal luxury car. Equipped with performance motors, lots of standard features, plush interiors and comfortable suspensions, the Thunderbird was in a class all its own. For many, it was the quintessential road trip car for two. As with most automakers in the 50s, the car was drastically updated every year, with new sheet metal and features. The second year of production debuted with the spare tire absent from the inner trunk and mounted as a continental style spare for additional trunk space, along with the exhaust now existing through the rear bumper at the corners. Hardtops were now available with optional porthole windows for better visibility when in use. And for added cabin comfort, a side vent was incorporated to the front fender to flow air into the cabin on hot days, along with side wind wings, sun visors, 12-volt electrical system, and round heater control knobs. Sales totaled only 15,631, fewest of all baby Birds, making them highly collectible to this day! Featured here is a 1956 Ford Thunderbird Convertible finished in a factory color code LE- Peacock Blue over XC-interior code of Dark Peacock & White. A wonderful host of options start with a powerful P-code 312ci V8 offering 225 horsepower mated to a Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission and 3.31:1 rear axle ratio! Optional equipment continues with Master-Guide power steering, chrome wire spoke wheels, storable soft top in white, auxiliary porthole hardtop, cabin tonneau cover, back-up lights, outside rearview mirror, Magic-Aire heater/defrost, Thunderbird floor mats, wide whitewall tires updated to radials measuring 205/75R15, and Town & Country radio! This example appears to be a great blend of original and cosmetically restored. The chrome shows as very well kept original while the exterior paint has been nicely refinished. Inside, the carpet & interior upholstery is new. The under hood presentation has been beautifully detailed with factory chrome engine dress up kit and polished finned aluminum valve covers. This example was built the 28th day of May and delivered new to the Detroit, MI sales district. It was later located by the St. Louis Car Museum in Lake Worth, Florida. Recent servicing includes new exhaust system, e-brake cables, brake hoses & hard lines, front idler arm, control bushings & ball joints, rebuilt steering pump with new hoses, new driveshaft u-joints, transmission fluid flush, along with fresh engine oil/filter. It runs and drives quite well, and would make for a terrific investment for any driver or parade going enthusiast! A wonderful color combination not often found on the market, so please act quickly. Please feel free to call with additional questions.
