We purchased the '58 about 4 years ago and it took about 2 years to restore. We take the car to car shows all over Florida...from the Keys to Ft. Walton Beach. A nice rider and very reliable. We get around 16 mpg. If any little thing doesn't seem right, we take it into the shop. We actually have 2 show cars, the other is a 1949 (T-Bird) Ford replica. I don't drive cars any more, only my wife does, so we don't really need 2 show cars. So which ever one we sell first, we will keep the other. Or if we sell them both, we will build/buy another one. When we bought it, there were new quarter panels, rocker panels and new floor pans, and it had a new exhaust system. Our restorer saw the floor pans from the bottom and he said it was a poor job. He took the seats out and fixed the floor pans and painted the floor black and put insulation on it and new carpet. He also replaced the trunk pans (painted, insulated and new carpeting) and replaced the gas tank with a new one. The original hydraulic steering was replaced with modern steering. The front has disk brakes, and the back were completely rebuilt. The drive shaft had to be shortened for the 700R4 transmission and all the bearings were replaced and it was balanced. There is a new aluminum radiator. All the engine fender wells and firewall were painted black and covered with polished stainless steel sheets. And of course, the engine and components are new. In March in Stuart, Florida at the Autogeek Detail Fest we won best engine with the '58 Impala. Judges were: Barry Meguiar host of Car Crazy and president of Meguiar's Car Care Products, Chris Jacobs host of Overhaulin' (Chip Foose is on this show), Bruno Massel two time NHRA World Champion and co-host of Truck U and Garage Squad, Matt Steele co-host of Truck U, Craig Burnett lead chemist for Mother's Car Care Products, Mike Phillips Autogeek's director of training, Wayne Carini host of Chasing Classic Cars, Dennis Gage host of My Classic Car. They also autographed the program booklet for us. At the Cruisin' Couples Annual Car Show, we won "Outstanding Vehicle". Cruisin' Across Florida we won Best Of Show. We've won People's Choice Award and many Top 10 or Top 20 awards. Also at John Staluppi's "Cars Of Dreams" in North Palm Beach (this is a world famous auto museum that is only open two or three times a year for charity car shows) we won Best of Show pre 2000.
