Vehicle Description
I have collected classic cars for 35 years. This is one of my classics from my personal collection, see others at, WWW.GCCC.us. This is the body style that every one remembers from the Early Triumph Cars. I think it is the most beautiful of all the Triumph body styles. This is a very nice car for one that's 50 years old. The body and interior is clean and solid and the spoke wheels add a lot of sports styling. The engine runs very well and with the cars low body design, you feel like you're going twice as fast as you really are. Simple and reliable, the TR3 could reach 110 mph and sold very well to customers which (fortunately) only had performances in mind as creature comforts were few. The Triumph TR3 is very attractive to those who know exactly what they want, a true British sports car, that makes you feel the speed... at any speed, with an exquisite vintage touch. It's like a T series MG, but with more power. The TR3 was so popular in the United States that Triumph sold it one year longer, after production ceased for Europe and other markets in 1961. The Triumph TR4 gearbox was then fitted to these latest TR3s sold in the United States in 1962. The first TR3 came off the Canley line in October 1955 and in reality was little different from the TR2 it replaced. It used the famous Triumph "wet liner" engine of 1,991cc (121cu.in.) capacity, which fitted with twin SU carburetors produced 95bhp at 4,800rpm. For the hard-driving sporting motorist on a limited budget, the car was unbeatable. It gave snappy acceleration and a genuine 100mph (161km/h) plus capability, which coupled with safe and predictable handling, made it an ideal vehicle for private competitors, both in racing and rallying.
