Used 1962 Nash Metropolitan for sale in Rowlett, TX

Now for something completely different.

Nash Motors offered their first automobile in 1917. In the early '50s they began exploring the prospects of marketing a small car in the USA. At the time cars were still following the bigger is better trajectory. The Nash Metropolitan was certainly to the contrary. Introduced in 1954 the Metropolitan was promoted primarily for "personal use" but also as an "economy car" because of its near 40 miles per gallon range, easily the highest of any car sold in the USA.

Although Nash was an American car company, the Metropolitan was assembled in England and powered by an Austin overhead valve four cylinder engine, a style widely used in British cars. A three speed manual transmission sends the power to the rear wheels.

This 1962 Series IV Metropolitan represents the final year of production and is one of only 420 produced that year. Restored about ten years ago in a non original color this Metropolitan presents nicely with only a few nicks and scuffs. The bright work and chrome are very nice and everything except the original AM radio is in working order. The engine was rebuilt in 2001 along with a new wiring harness, radiator, suspension and brake work. This example is notably free of rust and is a solid and straight example.

The little "Met" starts up easy, idles smooth and runs, shifts, steers and stops nicely. Despite its diminutive size, the cabin is roomy from head to toe for tall drivers, if not a bit cozy side to side. Its fun to drive, generating lots of smiles and thumbs up wherever it goes.

The Nash appealed to an eclectic buyer, likely as a second fun car; and as such it endures today.
