Not well known but they sold well." When climbing the ladder of success in 1964, the Olds 88 was offered as an upgrade to the Impala. It came with more stylish body contours and more custom trim than the modest Impala. However, the stock 88 “Slim Jim” tranny and 394 cu. in. engine had some design problems that slowed sales to the point where the 88 was only offered in '63-'64. Most found their way into salvage yards as it cost more to fix the engine and trannny than what the car was worth. That’s why people are shocked to see such a great car they have never heard of or seen before! However, flash forward 55 years and now with some subtle and mild custom improvements lays an awesome, stylish and affordable collector car ready to dazzle your friends and strangers alike. When the opportunity came for me to put in an affordable "tried and true" ’75 Pontiac 400 engine with an Offenhauser Intake Manifold and a 400 Turbo Hydramatic Transmission, it was a chance for a solid custom upgrade I couldn't pass up. Both engine and tranny dropped right in like they were designed to fit. Turns out today the 88 is a great entry level classic. It's perfect for collectors on a budget who want to get into a rarely seen GM-built Sixties car, at a down-to-earth price. The Dynamic 88 is one of the best options available. I should know, I have been driving my mild custom 88 for 15 years and loving it. The Pontiac 400 engine and trans combo worked out perfect. I have all the power, response and reliability I need for a great ride. Dropped in an awesome custom stereo with great sound quality that really adds to the experience of taking it for a cruise. It’s what’s owning a classic ride is all about. Everytime I drive the 88, I get a thumbs up or “Great” car! All the 88 needed was a tasteful interior and body color and someone could create a great looking, unique and affordable classic car for around $20000. The same "frame on" resto on a '64 Impala would cost $30000-40000+. Interior final upholstery is accented with mild custom 2-tone Sea Foam--Emerald Green and Cream to match exterior. Exterior is 2001 Cadillac Escalade Pearl Metallic Cream Brakes rebuilt and serviced New Master cylinder Rebuilt Differential Rear axles replaced and trued. New gas tank New exhaust system New wiring harness and new wiring entire car. All windows, windshields front and back replaced with new custom green tinted glass All door and window crank mechanisms replaced and serviced New timing chain New Viper Alarm Entire exterior and interior paint was stripped to bare metal.
