Vehicle Description
1964 Sunbeam Tiger Mk1 Chassis No. B9470432 LRX FE Body No. JAL 550443 L Left hand drive export R Roadster X Non-standard FE Ford Engine Authentic Sunbeam Tiger 1 of 3,763 Example Produced from 1964-65 Finished in Appropriate British Racing Green over Black Complete with Both Hard & Soft Tops Retains Original Firewall ID Plates & Valve Cover Tag Documented on Classic Tiger The Ideal Candidate for a Rolling Restoration Accompanied by a Surplus of Parts & Equipment Carroll Shelby's other pioneer "hybrid," the Tiger, was created at the behest of British automaker Rootes Group. At the time, the Sunbeam Alpine offered more comfort than other British sports cars of its era and a high measure of style, although power was lacking for gaining more success in the worldwide market. The Alpine's anemic powerplant made way for a small-block Ford V-8, four-speed transmission, rack-and-pinion steering, and stiffened springs. The results were figures that no sporting driver could resist, and for two years it was the American Hot Rod Association's national record holder over a quarter-mile drag strip. B9470432 LRX FE : An early production Tiger, likely manufactured in the second month, was completed in classic British Racing Green over Black upholstery, Black convertible top and complimenting Black hardtop. Fitted options include (LAT5) Traction Master Bars, (LAT7) Scatter shield, (LAT72) Motorola Radio Kit, (LAT60) Ford 289 HiPO Clutch Kit, (LAT74) 2' exhaust, (LAT3) 4 Barrel Carb Kit, (LAT1) Superinduction Kit, intake and 4-barrel. Presented as an ideal candidate for rolling restoration, the Sunbeam comes from several years of garage storage, in running order and complete, retaining a considerable amount of original equipment and finishes. The exterior's paint was applied many decades ago, while the original lacquer is found in many places throughout the vehicle. The current 289 HiPo motor was fitted in 1975, in place of the original 260, which also accompanies the sale. Ford 260ci Engine, 5-Bolt Bell Housing Casting No. C4OE-6015B Casting Date: 4B21 : February 21, 1964 A number of original corresponding engine pieces are included with the Tiger, as well as a host of extra Sunbeam parts and accessories (see photos). The car displays an usually solid frame and body, with just a few noted spots on the left rear wheel arch and rails running next to the rear exhaust. Importantly, it retains all factory firewall plates / plaques, as well as its matching valve cover tag, in addition to its original Rootes key with Sunbeam Tiger Key Chain (option LAT10) and several early records / invoices, including the engine service.
