1966 Chevrolet El Camino Although Ford was the first to create a pickup truck based on a car with their Ranchero many people credit the El Camino as making the style popular. They were based on a station wagon platform that integrated the cab and bed into the body. You will note most pickups are clearly a cab mounted next to a bed which creates the overall look where the El Camino has it all fused together. This creates a very cool look that you just can't get with your standard pickup. Now suddenly people could cruise around in something that looked like their buddies Chevelle but still provided them with the utility of a pickup. The bed has a spray in liner which looks good and stay looking good as it get used. It rolls around on Cragar SS wheels which are perfect for this vintage of car and they are wrapped with new radial tires (T235 70R15 in front, T285 70R15 in rear. ) Under the hood is the original 327 350HP motor which runs great. It was totally rebuilt during the restoration process and not only is mechanically sound but has a really clean look too. The engine compartment is all show ready with nice chrome upgrades and the block/manifold painted to match the car. It is paired with an automatic transmission that shifts through the gears smoothly. The car is highly optioned out with a lot of factory ordered add ons which include the factory AC, power windows, power brakes and power steering. Nowadays we take these items for granted as they are standard on every new car but back in this age these were features you had to special order. That makes this great looking car pretty unique when compared to some other 66 El Caminos out there. The AC system was entirely rebuilt and blows cold. The factory power brakes were also modified with a chrome master cylinder/booster and discs were added up front. This thing has zero mechanical issues and with only 700 miles since completed should last for many many years and miles down the road. The interior is all new throughout. The Red upholstery looks great and it is clear that it has been used gently and kept looking like new since finished. The bench seats feature matching Red lap belts for safety. The dash has a stock appearance but was also redone. The new radio sounds great and is the original style. The gauges were all replaced and are working properly.
