Vehicle Description
1966 Chevrolet Impala SS The Chevrolet Impala is a full-size car built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and since 2000 onwards. The Impala is Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and is generally among the better selling automobiles in the United States. For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. A California built and sold car starting out its life in a good climate. This radio delete, consigner stated big block (replaced with a 454) was restored with some TLC. Just to make you turn your head for the heck of it! Exterior Not quite a frame-off restoration, but body panels were stripped, and filled, then sanded, and finally resprayed with 1975 Corvette Metallic Blue. Consigner states that new quarter panels, new trunk drop offs, floor panels and outer wheel wells have been put in, although a close look and one can see lots of bondo areas, not sanded as carefully as it could have been, resulting in a scratchy and undulating finish. This can also be seen in the inconsistent panel gaps and drip moldings, and some slight bubbling in various areas. All new weather stripping on entire car, new hood hinges, door handles, and side mirrors, putting the brite work in pristine condition. Throw in some new badging as well, and we have a restoration. Interior Appearing in excellent condition, due to new upholstery, new door panels, new carpet, restoration of an existing nice console, new glove box, armrests, and window cranks. A new windshield has been installed, all other glass remains original and in good condition. All in pristine condition and clean. A very nice contrasting wood steering wheel fronts an original dash. Headliner is in good condition, as are all aluminum interior trim parts and badging. Embroidered SS carpeted floor mats are noted and attracting attention. Drivetrain The fresh 454ci engine sporting a mild cam, and new Rochester carb with electric choke sits proudly in the engine bay. It has aluminum Yenko 427 valve covers and is backed by a rebuilt Muncie 4 speed manual transmission. Undercarriage Frame appears solid and rust free. Seen are new shocks and springs, ball joints, rear suspension arm bushings and upper and lower A arm bushings. A rebuilt steering gearbox with power steering pump and lines, new drag link, idler arm, tie rod ends and ball joints, wrapped up with a professional alignment has this running straight and true. Last a 12-bolt rear with 3.55 gears takes power from the mill and transmission and puts it to the back tires. It cannot be proven that this was an original build 427 SS, however it has been stated that consigner got word throughout its history it had a 427. Car runs great, shifts smoothly, and stops on a dime.
