When looking at first glance, we see this beauty as one of the precise restorations for this category of the beloved Ford Mustang for the year 1966. However, when having a closer look, especially by someone who has the experience in this type of car, he will find some differences to what the car was supposed to look like. Instead of thinking about these differences, Let us ask the owner of this car for what he had done of superficial, major changes and the idea or the concept behind these changes. Q: What is the story of this car? A: It is known that the Ford Mustang is one of the most popular cars in the world, but I chose this model precisely because it is the first generation of the car and in the same time, it is smallest and the lightest (1200 kg) of all the generations of the Mustang. In addition, all original and customized spare parts can be easily found from Ford Motors Company and professional aftermarkets for the car which makes it easier in the restoration process and wider choice of alternatives. Q: What is different in this car for those? A: At the outset, my idea in this car is conceptual about the Mustang Shelby. Let me explain what do I mean, when Carroll Shelby started modifying Mustangs, he chose the GT class, or what is known as Fastback and did not choose the Coupe model. That is because the Fastback design was more demanded and popular during that era despite the fact that the Coupe model is lighter and smaller than the Fastback. Only in 1968 there was a limited number of Coupe modified model was manufactured under the name of California Special. But the production ceased in the same year as demand and sales was not encouraging. In the same year there was another attempt under the name of The Green Hornet, but it did not succeed on its way to market. That is why in this car, I illustrated my vision on how that model would have been looking like for the first generation of Coupe model. And that is why I called it the Shelby that Carroll missed. Q: What about the specifications in this car? A: I have been keen since the start of work to choose the most beautiful, powerful and finest quality parts. In addition, I tried to combine the original classic look of the car with the latest technology in the automotive world, provided that it is not be visible. For example, when we talk about the engine, we swapped the original six-cylinder engine to a 5.0-liter eight-cylinder engine which is equipped with high performance parts from very well-known manufacturers in the industry. At the same time, we painted the engine with chromium fire red color to make it look appealing and sport. Regarding the suspension system, it was replaced with a modern system. With respect to the braking system, the old system was replaced with a new disc anti-slip braking system with a fire red caliper with SHELBY carvings on it. Also, a high-performance manual transmission was installed with high performance components to transfer the torque and the horsepower to the rear end 9-inch 4.11: 1ratio axle differential with Trac Lock and transfer the power to the stylish 18X8 rear wheels. As for the exhaust system and its complete components from the engine to the beautiful chrome plated tips to deliver sporty acceptable sound. And when you move to the interior, we made sure that we do not change the original look and only added an aesthetic touch through high-quality red leather with Mustang carvings for the sport seats and doors. For the headliner, black unisuede was selected. The car also was fully soundproofed with high-quality, heat and moisture resistant materials to ensure quiet and durable interior. As for technology, the car is equipped with Electrical powered windows which are controlled by the original shape arms in the doors panels and a remote system to open the trunk. With respect to climate control, a sophisticated electronic system was installed but yet with a classical look. In addition, heating system for the seats was installed which can be adjusted electrically. With respect to the audio system, again top end system was installed but with a classical look yet behind the scenes, it has the connectivity to USB and AUX ports. Also, Sport side mirrors with LED signals as well as the day-lighting headlights and taillights sequential alarm system, parking sensors system with a back and front camera. Note that all the car’s lights internally and externally are LEDs. In addition, the car is equipped with sophisticated electronic rear view mirror which can communicate with the smart phone and utilize all the features in it such as the GPS system, the phonebook, make calls, listen to Music and watch videos with memory card slot. The car also is equipped with hidden tracking device which can inform you at any point of time the location of the car or when started or when moved. Beside the mentioned specifications added to the car, there are lots of more features that we added to the car and I will provide you with the link in the end so anybody can see everything about the car project from the start till the end. Q: Don’t you think that these specifications might make this car lose its classical value? A: beautiful question, let me explain something, there are different schools in the classic cars world. For example, there is the basic classic cars school where they insure that all original parts and colors are untouched without any additions or modifications and this school is one of the largest schools in terms of the number of collectors. Another school is the modernization and modification school of the classic cars which known as “Restomod”, this school has several branches from improved performance till reaching the racing world specifications. For my car, I introduced advance technology at the same time maintained as much as possible the classic look. It worth mentioning here that this modification allows the driver to use the car throughout the year, unlike the other school, which is active only when the weather is nice, taking into account the basic original conditions of the car when driving. Q: How long it took to work on the car? A: almost two years, and under the supervision of a professional team. Q: What are the difficulties that you encounter in this project? A: In the beginning it needed a lot of reading, comparison and coordination between the pieces to ensure compatibility and harmony, as well as following-up shipments, receiving and storage. As for the body, electrical and mechanical works, it was done by experts and I only have focused on the overall designs and specifications.
