Vehicle Description
This 1966 GMC Model 1000 Custom Cab pickup was built in Fontana, California. It spent its life in the warm climate doing light duty as Grandpa's Truck. One look at the undercarriage will convince you that the truck has never seen severe duty or off-road conditions that would certainly have left road film evidence of history. The pickup was ordered by the dealer with the optional 351E V6 engine that was available from 1966 through 1968. The engine is #000414 making it one of the first 500 engines built. This option was referred to as the High-Performance package and yielded 190 HP @ 3900 RPM and 220 HP at 4000 RPM and 320 pounds-feet of torque. All that power and torque is transmitted through a Saginaw Manual (SM) 420 4 speed manual transmission and you don't feel the hills with all that torque to the rear tires. The bed wood is original from 1966 and presents a consistent weathered patina and elicits lots of praises from car show attendees who really like it. The interior is completely stock with no aftermarket modifications which makes it ideal for the purist who is looking for that time capsule truck. The classic Firestone white wall tires, chrome Dog Dish Hub caps, and trim rings really make this truck a head turner wherever it goes. The custom exhaust features Walker Quiet SS mufflers with polished tips that exit in front of the rear tires. The exhaust note is muscular but not obnoxiously loud. The engine was treated to a Pertronix electronic ignition and high energy coil. New spark plugs and Belden lifetime wires were recently replaced. Additionally, an electric choke was installed on the Holly 500 two-barrel carburetor. The engine starts immediately with only one or two pumps of the throttle. New oil filter was just replaced and the engine treated to high zinc content oil engines of this vintage require. In addition, the transmission and rear end fluids have been recently changed so the truck is ready for any road trip. The engine does not burn oil or leak any fluids. The engine runs very strong with no hesitation or stumbling with that true "seat-of-the-pants" sensation one gets from a high torque engine. The undocumented mileage of the truck is estimated at approximately 65,000. The speedometer works but the odometer quit at approximately 10,000 miles. Many of these trucks seen in car shows have been updated with modern running gears and electronics. This truck is virtually all original including the electrical system which has not been cut and spliced or replaced making this a real classic in very good un-restored condition.
