Vehicle Description
This is a very original presenting Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, finished in desirable Velvet green with biscuit tan Connolly hide leather interior. The Velvet green is a beautiful choice for these early Shadows as the colour presents almost black in subdue light and then the green "emerges" under sun-light. These early Silver Shadows with chrome bumpers, opening 1/4 light glass on the front doors and an interior lavished in wood, leather and chrome controls everywhere to the touch are truly a delight. This was all designed before strict safety standards came inso the interior of the car, in particular, was "as the designers intended". These early cars sit low to the ground, deeper at the rear, giving the car great poise and elegance. Describing the car; this is an entirely unmolested and original example. Never restored and simply cosseted its whole life. Mostly original factory paint, original interior with good leather, the wood presenting in excellent and outstanding original condition. These Chippendale dash-boardlay-outs (only used from 66 thru early 68) are to-die-for given the plethora of wood and chrome knobs. The carpets and headliner are in very good condition. We think a set of factory mouton lambs-wool rugs in this car would truly finish her off (please enquire if you agree). As importantly, it has been well maintained. Although rarely driven, the car was kept in the collection under the eye of a Rolls-Royce enthusiast who regularly maintained the car. When it arrived to us, it fired up immediately and purred on our maiden test drive. An original west coast car and later Illinois but never driven in inclement weather (and it shows), always garage kept and stored. The car today, is in exemplary condition. Very straight, very clean, very true in all characteristics Rolls-Royce. A lot of original paint - on an early Silver Shadow is almost an impossible find. The paint presents well but does show some blemishes and marks with some buff/polish "burn-thru" on the bonnet area. None objectionable and we think its "originality" out-weighs the blemishes but if you would like them attended to because you are a perfectionist you might want to have this redone. (the Park-Ward Motors Museum has its own paint shop so please enquire if you would want this attended to by us). The interior remains virtually perfect and is an outstanding feature on this 4 door saloon. All the wood, window surrounds, carpet and roof-lining, are in immaculate condition. And, being an early Shadow, has the delightful rear passenger picnic tables. The Connolly hide leather is stunning, showing its Connolly hide signature finish. Connolly leather has a 2-tone effect with a darker dressing in the depths of the grain. This Shadow shows it off well with just the right amount of patina to look like, and feel like, a high-endChesterfield couch. So inviting you want to just sit in it for no reason. Mechanically the car demonstrates all the hallmarks of a well maintained example. Technically superb with all brakes/hydraulics working well. (Hydraulics and brakes were gone thru by us last summer with new pumps, accumulators, calipers, hoses and pads). Suspension heights are correct which is important on these early cars. The car drives incredibly smooth, without any bumps, rattles or knocks. It truly glides and "floats" like the Shadow of this era was designed and built to do. Testament of its well maintained history is the cleanliness under the hood. Not detailed but appropriately maintained. The trunk presents just as well without so much as mark in the carpet. Showing just 29,500 miles from only 3 owners from new, we can not attest this mileage being true but she sure looks like it. In the last 20 years she was rarely used, sitting in a private collection of cars as an example of the Rolls-Royce marque. All external bright-work is well above standard and lights and lenses; excellent. www.park-ward.com
