Vehicle Description
Numbers matching with only 48,728 documented original miles. This heavily documented car was in the same family for 48 years. The GTO was purchased new at Zane Pontiac in Greensboro, North Carolina in March of 1968 and the owner passed it down to his grandson in 1993. It has been in central North Carolina since new. This concourse level nut and bolt restoration started in 2001 and was completed in 2002 and to this day, it looks better than the day it rolled off Pontiac’s assembly line in Baltimore on March 12, 1968 and was shipped to Zane Pontiac. When you view the car, you can’t help but notice your reflection in the ultra rare and original color of Mayfair Maize which was applied over the lazer straight panels. The body gaps are second to none and line up beautifully. To complete this package is the black Cordova (vinyl) top. This car is very eye appealing for sure. When you open the door, you will appreciate the fact that it looks as if it has never been sat in, much less driven anywhere. The factory Hurst dual gate shifter is an added bonus along with the crystal clear gauges and rally clock. And yes, the original AM push button radio still works and sounds quite nice. Now that I have your attention, let’s open the hood. The engine compartment is highly detailed and therein sits the original 400 CI engine with 350 horsepower mated to the original numbers matching bullet proof 400 turbo transmission and yes, of course, the rear end is numbers matching as well with the original gear ratio of 3:36 to 1 and the safe-t-track. Really when viewing this GTO you cannot believe it is 51 years old. It looks as if it should be on the show room floor. This GTO still retains all of its original sheet metal, trunk and floor pans which are rust/damage free. The complete steering, suspension, brakes and fuel systems have either been rebuilt or replaced for assured trouble free driving. If you have been looking for a rare, highly collectable GTO with ALL the documentation and restored to a concourse level. You should not pass on this one.
