Used 1968 Porsche 912 for sale in Orange, CT

In July of 1964 Porsche introduced the 911, but not after the end of the 356. It wasn’t until July of 1965 that the aged, but well loved, 356 model was ended. Although the 911 was a much more modern, more powerful six cylinder with entirely new chassis and body design, much of Porsches core customers were priced out and were left unable to buy the new upgraded Porsche. So they needed a stepping stone to take the place of the 356, enter the 912. An upgraded 90 horsepower 4 cylinder engined car similar to the 356 SC, the 912 was better with the all new 911 body and upgraded suspension and disc brakes all the way around. The 912 was also offered with either a 4 speed or upgraded 5 speed which made highway driving much more pleasurable. The 912 bridged the gap between 356 and 911 buyers and is also credited as the car that saved Porsche at a time of financial difficulty. It lasted from 1965 through 1969 with 1968 being the last year for the short wheelbase cars and has gone down as one of the most popular and well designed Porsches of all time.

Offered here is one of the last short wheelbase 912’s, a one owner from new 1968 912 with the factory optional 5 speed transmission. An incredible example that was owned by the original owner and his family until last year when we acquired the car and treated it to a complete ground up restoration that is fully documented with photographs. The car was taken all the way down to bare metal and finished in its original colors of Polo red with black leather interior. It still retains its matching numbers engine that was gone thorough including brand new cylinders and the brakes and tires are all new. This a fantastic matching numbers short wheelbase five speed 912 that is complete with its Porsche certificate of authenticity as well.
