The 300SEL 6.3 started out as a private venture in 1966 by company engineer Erich Waxenberger. His principle was simple: take the powerful 6.3 Litre Mercedes Benz M100 engine from the massive 600 saloon and limousine, and fit it into the engine bay of the high end 6-cylinder, the 300SEL W109 model. The result was pavement-ripping muscle car performance. The 6.3 was known for its ability to cruise at over 124 mph with five occupants in complete comfort.
This beautiful time capsule is completely road worthy and today, this 300SEL can make a cross-country drive an absolute pleasure. The 6.3 engine, can make it alot quicker. The overall condition of this car is extremely good. This is an all original car with the exception of a high end repaint in its original factory color, Silver Gray Metallic. The finish is still beautiful today as is the chrome and trim.
With just 88081 miles, this MB is still a baby. A Mercedes Benz 300SEL can easily reach the 500,000 mile range especially with its factory built 6.3 Litre engine. The engine is smooth, quiet and powerful. Its starts immediately and stops on a dime.
The interior is completely original and in great shape. There are no seat tares but there is some wear. Everything works as it should including all gauges. The interior is very clean but does show some ware in some areas most notably, the wood trim pieces that surround the glass. These pieces have spent 50+ years in the direct sunlight. The wood pieces on the dash are in much better condition. They are not perfect but far from needing any restoration work.
This car has already reached Collector Car status. Values have already gone up as most classic Mercedes will do. This very special classic may reach iconic status in the very near future. Only 6526 of these cars were made. Dont miss out on a rare find.
