Vehicle Description
There are MANY reasons to love classic cars. Most people drive them because they look cool and sound good. A lot of folks enjoy them because of the memories they've made in them. And some savvy collectors buy them based on numbers alone. Occasionally, a car like this awesome 1969 Trans Am comes along and presents the rare opportunity to bundle all those attractive traits into one exceptionally cool package. It's a Pontiac, so it automatically looks cool and sounds good. Since it's some of the most storied American muscle ever built, we're willing to bet everyone has at least one great memory of the car. And as a documented, numbers-matching collectable that's 1 of only 520 1969 Ram Air III/4-speed Trans Am coupes produced, it definitely has impressive numbers! THE REBIRTH OF A LEGEND A clean F-Body that's continuously turned heads for close to 50 years, this turned up Trans Am is a literal culmination of detailed maintenance and focused restoration. The car's all-original sheetmetal is solid throughout, with smooth, flat panels that are complemented by better-than-factory alignment. Those surfaces, painstakingly restored by a collector, wear a correct coat of Cameo Ivory 2-stage, which has been appropriately decorated with a blue valance, awesome "TRANS AM" call-outs and silky ribbon stripes. And today, with unique visual sizzle that's as classy as it is aggressive, this top notch Poncho is a highly desirable example of a major milestone in Motor City history! As is the case with most documented classics, trim and ornamentation are exactly as the factory specified. At the front of this coupe's crisp body, a new-for-1969 Endura nose centers chrome-trimmed, Trans Am-spec grilles between ornate parking lamps, a small spoiler and four stainless-trimmed headlights. At the top of that nose, a familiar Ram Air Hood fronts stainless-trimmed glass that's reflected in a correct driver's mirror. At the sides of that hood, a clean profile frames unique fender louvers and factory door handles with straight wheel lips, dent-free rocker guards and super cool Firebird marker lamps. And out back, a tall spoiler shades a polished bumper, detailed Pontiac branding and pyramid-style taillights. ORIGINAL PONTIAC 400 Under the hood, 400 cubic inches of original Pontiac power hides a familiar 9790071 casting number behind a Ram Air III-spec "WQ" assembly stamp and a matching 119864 partial VIN. At the top of that Turquoise mill, a requisite Rochester 4-barrel bridges the gap between factory Ram Air induction, fresh stainless fluid lines and a cast iron intake. That intake rides between cast iron heads, which hang polished valve covers over restored manifolds. A familiar points distributor jolts spark through familiar Packard TV R Suppression cables. Cooling is provided by a shrouded radiator, which sends water around a correct open-case alternator via pliable GM hoses and reproduction tower clamps. And aesthetically, the car's impressive engine bay has been very well restored. JUST AS IT WAS Check the bottom of this Firebird and you'll find a fully tagged undercarriage that's capped with solid, Satin Black floors. Behind the legendary motor, an original Muncie 4-speed brandishes a correct 3925660 casting number behind a 1969 (9) Muncie (P) M20 (A) assembled on November (S) 2nd (02) build stamp and a matching 119864 partial VIN. That transmission twists power to a "ZH" branded 10-bolt, which, in accordance with that code, is finished with a posi-traction differential and correct, 3.55 gears. That sporty drivetrain is centered in a factory double A-arm front and rear leaf suspension. Factory power steering provides easy turns. Standard power front disc and rear drum brakes provide easy stops. Mandrel-bent exhaust centers an X-shaped crossover in front of a transverse muffler. And power meets the pavement through stainless-trimmed Pontiac Rally IIs, which spin F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas Custom Wide Treads. RESTORED AND READY TO ROLL Pop the doors and you'll find a correct Blue vinyl interior that's been brought back to life with a roster of high quality reproduction components. Tall bucket seats provide comfortably firm support and display no fading or tears. A clean dash founds restored telemetry next to Delco-GM audio, an aftermarket Sun oil pressure gauge and optional factory accessory gauges. That retro interface is nested in fresh carpet, a tight headliner and pliable side panels. And the driver turns a Formula Steering Wheel, paired with a tilting column, while rowing a polished Hurst shifter. If you're looking for a documented Detroit muscle car that mixes original, numbers-matching performance with striking, factory-correct aesthetics, congratulations, it's your lucky day!
