Chevrolet's Z/28 Camaro has been synonymous with 'high performance sports coupe' almost from the moment the first cars appeared in 1967. Those first generation (1967-1969) Z/28's were high-strung homologation specials with destroked small blocks (302 ci) that qualified under the Trans Am series 305 ci limit. As good as these cars are, however, those in the know will tell you that the 1970 model is a superior car in every way. A rule change in the Trans Am series now permitted post-production destroking, so Chevy used a similar solid lifter cam and big valve (2.02/1.60), high compression heads on their 350, resulting in the legendary LT-1 engine.
