Vehicle Description
"Overall Impression: A recent professional restoration of a very desirable 1970 Hemi Challenger R/T. 1 of 150 Automatic Hardtops built, 1 of 14 known Hemi's w/Shaker Hood." This is a very special car, and it comes with its original broadcast sheet, fender tag "decoded" by Galen's Tag Service, and a detailed visual inspection by Galen Govier with 22 pages of photos and commentary. The documentation alone will provide hours of fascination and entertainment. Occasionally, you run across a car that stands out even among like models. Such cars are often carefully restored and treasured. That's the case here. Originally clad in rare TX9 factory black, this car also displays V9W "White Transverse Sport" stripes (and here all along you called them "Bumblebee Stripes") and the effect is simply stunning. They're painted on too, not just vinyl. In combination with the white and black interior, this Challenger has an air of sophistication and splendor that elevates it above the norm. Then, of course, there's the hardware. This is a genuine R-code Hemi Challenger. As noted above, it's one of only 14 that were built with the Shaker Hood. By now, you know the story on factory horsepower ratings during the muscle car era. The bottom line is the superior performance of the Hemi got it legislated out of NASCAR and NHRA Pro Stock. Let's just say it put out a little more than the rated 425 horsepower. Today it forms the foundation for 11,000 horsepower Top Fuel and Nitro Funny Car engines. The word legendary is most appropriate when discussing Hemis. With that kind of muscle on tap, the supporting cast must be up to the task. Enter code D32, the A727 Torqueflite automatic. It transmits the twist to a third member with three important codes -- A32 Super Performance Axle Package, D58 Axle Ratio: 4.10 w/9.75" diameter, and D91 Axle: Sure-Grip. While we're decoding, let's see what else we can find. A62 Rallye Instrument Cluster, N85 Tachometer, B41 Front Brakes: Disc. Power Brakes Required. N41 and N42. That means dual exhaust with chrome tips. N96 Carb Fresh Air Pkg. or Shaker Hood. Get the picture? This is a well equipped 1970 Hemi Challenger R/T in immaculate condition. Govier's report rates the car a 1 or excellent, which is "restored to current maximum professional standards of quality in every area." The docs and reports also tell you what the car is not. For example, it's not numbers matching. That's fine with savvy investors who know that this car could be a 7-figure expenditure with its born-with engine, and would then be virtually undriveable. As it is, we have an investment grade classic automobile that performs and presents as new -- offering you the opportunity to drive, show, and enjoy a rare performance machine at a prudent price point. Even though there are no codes for fun and prestige, they are included as standard equipment.
