Vehicle Description
Presented for your consideration is a 1971 Lotus Europa S2, S/N 650693R which underwent a complete frame-up restoration to as close to factory specifications as possible considering the elapsed time since manufacture and availability of parts. The auto is owned by a known Europa expert, and features the original OEM interior (except for the carpets), the original Renault 821-30 powerplant, and all gauges and electrical equipment in working condition. The original frame, being beyond repair, was replaced with a powder-coated original frame, and the body was stripped down to bare fiberglass, cracks rectified, then refinished with 4 coats of Duratec epoxy primer and 6 coats of high-solids polyurethane single stage paint, hand-flattened and buffed to a mirror finish. Chrome bumpers, tail lights (converted to european spec) and other anciliary pieces refinished, and exterior plastic lenses replaced with NOS originals. New windshield and bright surround trim was installed at the time of the body work. Engine was rebuilt by previous owner; rear seals and head gasket replaced, and a new clutch (and engine control cables) replaced at the construction phase, and a period correct Weber carburetor was installed to replace the problematic original Solex (which will go with the car, along with the original restored and powder-coated air cleaner assembly). All shift mechanism rod ends and heim joints replaced, and shift lever converted to later twincam version to eliminate slop. Car shifts well, handles well, and proceeds down the road as you would expect a Lotus to do.. She rides on restored and powder-coated original wheels, shod with the correct 155/78-13 Vredstein radials (Dunlops NLA) with NOS nave plates (hub caps). All suspension joints and bushings replaced with OEM spec parts, and suspension set up with Spax shocks and European-spec springs. The car sits as it was designed by Colin Chapman's engineers, not as the US DOT thought it should be. Going with the car is a crate engine obtained from Lotus Cars in 2009, and a spare transaxle. Was going to drop it in at some point, but time and work has intervened, hence my reluctant sale of this desirable and unique automobile. Multiple Best in Class, Best in Show, first and second place award winner at many local and regional shows (Buckingham, New Hope, Brits in the Village, Brits at the Beach, etc). Car displays well, drives well, and is a good example of fine British engineering. This is a 46 year-old car. It is as close to perfect as I can get it and have treated it, but as with any vintage automobile, there is no warrantee or promise that it is fault-free or can be used as a daily driver or won't need maintenance down the road. Car is sold where-is, as-i., and as I take them, additional photos will be posted (or, you can request specific views if you want to see more of the car.). Or, you can visit my car's website at http://www.lotuseuropa.us and select 693R from the top menu to read the restoration journal and look at an extensive collection of photos detailing the process of her resurrection. Title is free and clear, and will be released upon full payment of agreed sale price in either US currency, loan company remittal, or bank transfer. No personal checks, money orders, or out-of-state checks or offers of creative financing terms will be considered. Purchaser assumes cost of transport from door to door, and I will help with loading of car on your transporter.
