Vehicle Description
This Pastel White 1972 VW Bus is a numbers matching time capsule and is in completely original condition both inside and out. It was purchased new by Vern and Connie Berg from Sioux Falls, SD at Soo Import VW in October of 1972- the original sticker is on the rear of the bus and incredibly, in perfect condition.
This bus, along with a 1959 Ford 2 door that the Bergs also purchased new, was always stored in their heated garage. The Bergs took the bus and the '59 Ford to an occasional car show where they met Doug and Flo Hoppe from Sioux Center, IA, and formed a very close friendship. One day, Doug went to the Bergs home to pick up their dog that the Bergs had been watching, Vern handed the keys and title to the 1959 Ford and said "Take good care of it for us!". The VW however, stayed in the garage until Vern passed away in 2013. After Vern's passing, the bus also went to the Hoppes to join the 59 Ford once again. When Doug passed away a few years later Flo had their friend Tim Molzen, a dealer in Iowa, sell the camper for her.
The condition of the bus says a lot about what kind of people the Bergs and the Hoppes were. It has been driven and enjoyed for over 67,000 miles and absolutely pampered its whole life, and as a result, is still in showroom condition. It has only been driven in the summertime and never in any bad weather.
Its Pastel White paintwork is in incredible condition, and all of the chrome, glass, upholstery, curtains and interior components are original. The only exceptions are the new Hankook tires with the correct load and speed rating and a period-correct VW radio which were added by its third owner. Included with the Bus are the original tool roll, jack, owners manuals and documentation, optional child's cot, and "circus" tent.
