Vehicle Description

1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS VIN: 9113600526 Early second series Carrera RS with thin-gauge steel bodywork Monte Carlo Rally and Tour Auto racing history Documented ownership history from new Matching numbers 2.7-liter engine Currently liveried to first Monte Carlo Rally debut Responsible for starting a worldwide fascination for homologated race cars for the street, the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS instantly became an automotive icon. Originally slated to only build 500 examples, Porsche would end up producing 1,580 Carrera RSs as demand far outweighed supply. With the original series cars and some of the early second series sporting thinner gauge steel to decrease weight, these early production RSs are highly prized for their pure connection to the racecars that ended up being so successful in competition. Powered by 2.7-liter mechanical fuel injected flat six engines and good for 210 horsepower, these halo 911s were the pinnacle of racecar performance that was legal for the road. Originally delivered to French importer Sonauto in February 1973, this 911 Carrera RS was delivered in Touring configuration in Ivory White with black interior fabric featuring "Pepita" fabric. First owned by Jean-Philippe Grand, owner of Garage Gras and official Porsche Dealership for Cannes, he would register the car as a dealer vehicle and have demonstration plates for the car. The Carrera RS wouldn't see any racing with Grand, but Jose Grindou, its next owner, would cement the 911 in Monte Carlo and Tour Auto racing history. Jose Grindou registered the 911 Carrera RS to his name on December 26th, 1973 which would mark the beginning of a lengthy history between the French racer and his 911. Quickly modified to go rally racing, Grindou used the car in a various number of local events. Under the ownership of Grindou, this Carrera RS participated in the world-famous Monte Carlo Rally three times, 1977-1979. Grindou and the RS would have their best Monte Carlo finish in 1979, winning their class in Group 3P and coming in 19th overall. He would have his best finish ever in 1979, racing in the Criterium Alpin - Jean Behra race, finishing 8th overall. Changing ownership shortly to Franck Galci for 5 months before going to Anthony Fourmachat in October of 1979, Fourmachat raced the Carrera RS in the 1980 Rally de Monte Carlo. Michel Triabassi would then purchase the 911 in August of 1980, racing the car in the 39th Tour de France Automobile (Tour Auto), taking 26th overall. The Porsche then changed hands, going to Transport Pellegrin in August of 1983, to Peirre Berengrier in August of 1987, to Andree Brulat in August of 1989, and then was purchased by Danielle Andress Bertolotti in December of 1991 and would then own the car for more than 23 years. Bertolotti had the Carrera RS reverted back to its original 1973 specifications a few years after his initial purchase, but keeping the roll bar and participated in a few local tourist-like rallies. He then sold the car in September of 2014 to Pascal Andres (registered to Julie Andres), ending his almost 24-year ownership with the 911. The Porsche was then stripped of its paint down to the metal body panels, and during the process found the original layers of paint that illustrated its color history. Upon removing all of the paint, it was determined that the car was in excellent rust-free condition, with the rear fenders being 100% original and were of factory thinner gauge steel, as were the first series 911 Carrera RSs and early second series cars. With the doors and roof also determined by two independent experts to have the original thinner sheet metal and adding value to the already impressive history, the car was repainted in its original factory color. In-period rally accessories were fitted to the car, with the accelerator pedal extension being a period addition fitted by Jose Grindou and the bodywork was restored in M471 Lightweight spec as it was raced from 1975 onwards. The 911 was recently fitted with stickers returning the car to its livery when it first participated in the Rally de Monte Carlo with Jose Grindou in 1977. The 911 Carrera RS was sold by Road Scholars to a collector in Los Angeles, California, with the 911 Carrera RS arriving recently at Canepa. Going through the "Canepa Difference" process, the Monte Carlo Rally racer was first treated to a full concours detail, cleaning everything from the engine compartment to the front trunk and everything in between. Requiring only a small amount of polishing, the Ivory White paint has a smooth sheen paired with its period-correct stickers and allows the imagination to bring you back to the start of the Monte Carlo Rally. Mechanically serviced with all of its systems addressed, this Monte Carlo rally racer with authentic racing history is ready for any drive you throw at it, from your short canyon drive to a long historic rally race. 44511 kilometers = 27,658 miles
