Vehicle Description

This 1979 Ferrari 308 GT4 Dino is in Nero with Bone and is a USA version. Approximately 2,826 308 GT4 2+2's were produced from 1974 to 1980 - about 900 are believed to be built with US specifications. This car is S/N 15304. This 308 is a late version and one of the last Dino GT'4's imported to the US as production ceased shortly thereafter with S/N 15604. These late cars typically featured factory installed sunroofs, a new instrument panel and improved A/C. History of the Model: The GT4 was a ground-breaking model for Ferrari in several ways. It was the first production Ferrari to feature the mid-engined V8 layout and was the first production Ferrari under the touches of Bertone designed bodywork, penned by Marcello Gandini. Enzo himself took a major role in its design, going as far as having a mock-up made where he could sit int the car to test different steering, pedals and cockpit seating positioning. Niki Lauda was also a big help in setting up the chassis. The styling featured angular lines entirely different from its curvaceous 2-seater brother, the Dino 246 and was controversial at the time. Some journalists compared it to the Bertone-designed Lancia Stratos and the Lamborghini Urraco, also penned by Marcello Gandini. The chassis has a tubular spaceframe based on the Dino 246 and was stretched to make room for the second row of seats. The suspension is fully independent, with double wishbones, anti-roll bars, coaxial telescopic show absorbers and coil springs on both axles. From the cockpit, the driver sees the road in front of him, an upright seating position, realistic trunk and back seat for soft luggage and a very easily accessed engine bay. History of the Subject Car: This car, built in December of 1979 is the last year of the mid-engine Dino 308’s produced with were badged as Ferrari. Is has the rare factory sunroof, air-conditioning, power windows and pop-up headlights. There have been two long-term owners with the last having the car for over 20 years and putting on 55,000 miles during that time. This owner was meticulous in every aspect of the car, totaling over 40 extensive invoices during his ownership in Hawaii. This car is in its original black color with bone leather interior and black Wilton carpets. The seats are in excellent condition. It currently has an aftermarket Nardi steering wheel although the original does come with the car. A period correct Pioneer cassette stereo system with remote in currently installed. Accompanying the car are the original tool and jack rolls. Car does come with an aftermarket leather owners’ pouch and spare parts book, but the owner’s manual itself is a factory original. Factory inserts and brochures from the period come with the extensive service records dating back to the early 1980’s. In mid-2017, a full 40k major service was completed which included rebuilding the carburetors, new cam belts, tensioner bearings, new water pump, rebuilt chain tensioners, a valve adjustment, spark plugs, engine and oil filter change, gear oil change, new seals as well as new sway bar bushings, fuel lines, breather hoses, and much more. Tires are in good running condition and new professionally rebuilt ATE calipers were recently replaced. It is titled in Arizona, however a recent California smog will allow this car to be titled in this state. This 308 won the ‘People’s Choice Award’ at the Petersen’s Automotive museum’s Sunday Cruise recently but has not been shown or displayed otherwise. Ready for the new owner to enjoy.
