1980 Mercury Capri The Capri nameplate is derived from the namesake Italian island. In automotive use, it has been used by all three Ford divisions. In 1952, the Lincoln Capri marked the first use of the nameplate, serving as its premium trim level during the early 1950s. From 1962 to 1964, Ford of Britain introduced a Ford Consul Capri two-door hardtop coupe. For 1966 and 1967, the Capri name was first used by Mercury, denoting the standard trim of the Mercury Comet. Exterior With the extensive modifications on mostly the power end, we see a fiberglass modified hood with a massive scoop, and new front grill panel assembly. Color matching is off from original car which has a respray, with possibly original paint on the roof. A black wide vinyl trimline is seen on the belt of this car and runs from front to rear fender, with a dual orange pinstripe in the center. This trim continues around the grille as well as the rear of the car. Some wear, smudging, and repaired areas on the paint are noted throughout on the exterior. Some pin striping is missing on the passenger door, where inconsistent gaps are noted in the door and fender panels. Chrome and Aluminum Centerline wheels are covered by thin front wheels, and 11" wrinkle wall slicks on the rear. Black side pipes peek out from underneath the rockers on both sides. Interior A 10-point roll cage has been inserted into the passenger compartment, and the driver's seat has been replaced by a racing bucket seat with 3-point safety belts. (The original driver's seat will come with the purchase of the car). Other upgrades from the original are oil and water gauges, a dash top mounted tachometer, a few additional switches for fuel pump, fireball electronic ignition box, and a quick throw Hurst shifter that operates a dynamic automatic transmission. The remainder of the interior remains stock with a burl dash, red carpeting, and wild cloth seats in an 80's pattern to die for! Drivetrain A 521cI Big Block monster engine that produces 750hp has an overbore of .30, a Scat crank and H Beam rods, a double timing chain, JE Forged pistons and Total Seal gapless rings. Edelbrock RPM performance cylinder heads top the piston area and topping the mill to deliver the fossil and air mixture is an Edelbrock Victor air gap intake manifold. Behind this powerful mill is an equally powerful and sturdy fuller rollerized C-4 transmission with an SF-1 Shield, and an H.D. Flywheel. This pushes the energy back to the rear by way of an Axle Exchange aluminum driveshaft, sporting a 9" type rear yoke. An 8.8 modified differential assembly with a 3.73 ratio has been installed. All the best parts to the tune of 30K have been put under the fiberglass hood! Undercarriage Highly modified to take the pounding, we note 11" Econoline rear brakes, 31 Spline Moser axles, Moser spool, and 5-wheel studs. Taking gasses from the Hooker headers, is a 3" Delta Flow 40 series Muffler setup. Remaining undercarriage is surgically clean, and certainly rust free and structurally sound.
