Vehicle Description
!983 Monte Carlo SS. 1 of 4,714 produced. I am the original Owner. Garage Kept. All options listed on the brochure as popular options except power trunk opener and electric rear window defogger. Runs well and has been very reliable. I have enjoyed this car over the years and hate to see it go but we are planning on moving and I don't foresee anywhere to store it. The engine has good low end torque and will squeal the tires if you are moderately aggressive from a stop. It has a good rumble at idle. I have been satisfied over the years at how well it goes back into service after being stored for months.
This was my daily commuter car until my retirement in 2012. The commute was approximately 8 miles round trip so it was at operating temperature for most of the trip. It has been exercised several times a year since then. When this was my commuter car it was stored during the winter months and otherwise driving on salted roads was avoided. Nearly 150k miles but I think are many more left. Everything is stock without modification except the transmission support crossbar which has been modified for an exhaust pipe pass-thru for true dual exhaust. Currently, the original exhaust is installed.
No rust thru that I know of and the rust as seen in the door bottom photos is surface rust. This car had a minor collision in a driveway when it was backed into years ago. The dent was in the left rear quarter panel behind the rear wheel. I made that repair myself and the filler is starting to age. I did some heat shrinking on the inside of the panel as is seen in the trunk photos. The paint is original except for the left rear repair and some minor restoration of parking lot nicks and bumps. I has typical nicks and dents for its age. Other than the quarter panel collision there have been no other collisions.
The A/C has not been used for years as I recall it was cycling due to low freon. I have disconnected the compressor and the low-pressure switch.
Having experience in car restoration I think this car is a good candidate for restoration or it could also be driven as it is as I have had comments from passersby and from other cars over the years about the car.
