Vehicle Description
If you want to enjoy a classic Mercedes convertible look no further. This 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL is Dark Blue with Tan interior. It comes with the hard top and Navy Blue soft top which is about 6 years old and in excellent condition. This car gets a compliment every time I drive it. The Dayton Wire Wheels really set this 380SL apart from all the others. It is a daily driver during good weather, never driven in the rain or snow. Always garage kept. Overall, the paint is in excellent condition with a tremendous shine as seen in the pictures. The car shows very well. There are two small spots showing some rust on the rear trunk lid and the passenger right rocker panel, shown in the pictures. Some very minor scratches and nicks in limited spots. There are a couple of cracks on the dashboard which is typical for a car of this age.
Investments and improvements include: Radiator new core installed Oct 2020, new RF tie rod ends Aug 2020, new front and rear speakers 2019, Bilstein shocks front and rear 2018, new muffler in 2017 and new tires in 2016. ($1,200 invested in 2020)
The interior is in good shape but does show some age, as do the leather seats. The trunk is clean, original spare tire is present as is a partially complete original tool kit. The original Becker radio was replaced with a Kenwood. Small plug connects with smart phone to listen to music, radio and CD works great.
The mileage when purchased in 2015 was 110K, now showing 130K. The odometer is not the actual mileage. Title states “Odometer Discrepancy”. Previous owner explained the odometer broke and accumulated 3-5K miles before repaired. Previous owner was retired Mercedes mechanic with a specialty Mercedes Benz shop in Cincinnati.
It holds a steady idle at about 700 RPM. The car accelerates without hesitation, shifting automatically with ease through every gear. A few drips in the garage here and there, but no major leaks There are some overall small cosmetic items that can be improved, but nothing major. The AC was converted to R134, however there is a leak and does not hard a charge.
A great opportunity to own the last production year of the desirable 380SL which has the twin timing chain. It’s a beautiful car, a true joy to drive and it will never go out of style. I have a Weather Shield HP car cover and self-made hard top stand which are included. I’m selling to free up space in my garage. Reduced asking price from $11,900 to $9,900 in April 2021. If you have any questions or want to make an offer, I'd love to hear from you.
