Why don't they still build these cars (trucks?) anymore? They are nice looking, nice driving, and useful. This is one of the last ones built and as it's been over 30 years since that time, you are seeing fewer and fewer of them on the road. Take a look at this Conquista edition, then come on down and check it out up close and personally. You might decide that it is just the car/truck you have been looking for. This last gen Camino shared many of the body panels with the Malibu, although it was the first of the Caminos to have its own unique chassis, not shared with any other Chevrolets. The look is a sharp-edged style with crisp clean lines running from front to rear. The two-tone light and dark Gold makes the car look long and low. Dark Gold coats the roof flowing down the sail panels and along the top edges of the bed which are topped by chrome rails. The Light Gold center section has a pin stripe that traces along the top, body colored side mirrors, and bold chrome trim that runs all the way from front to rear over both wheel wells. A rectangular egg-crate grill is topped by a bowtie hood ornament, is flanked by quad headlights and underlined by a chrome bumper. Out back, the rear quarter has El Camino on the side and Conquista lettered on the tailgate which was sourced from the Malibu wagon, but creates a pick-up bed in this case. Open the door and you will find a comfortable two tone interior that you don't have to climb up into. The molded door panel has a long armrest that makes for comfortable long-distance cruising with power window and lock switches at your fingertips. The cloth covered bucket seats are roomy and comfortable with a fold down armrest between them. The two-spoke steering wheel has El Camino lettered on the center button and is mounted on a tilt column with cruise control mounted on a stalk as well the shifter for the automatic transmission. Behind it is a stock dashboard with the speedo on the left, tach on the right, and fuel, voltage, water temp and oil pressure gauges in the center. Ventilation controls include those for air conditioning to keep you cool on those hot summer days and there is a Blaupunkt FM/Cassette stereo for your listening pleasure. Tan carpets tie the look of the interior together nicely and are protected by El Camino floor mats. Pop the hood and you will find a tried and true 305 cubic inch V8 engine powering this car. During this last production run, the 3.8 V6 was the standard engine and this 5.0-liter V8 was the upgrade option. It is the original, numbers matching engine in the car with some recent maintenance that includes a new A/C compressor and lines as well as a newer brake booster, master cylinder and battery. With some fresh paint on that air cleaner as well as some cleaning and detailing and general TLC, this engine bay would look sharp again in a hurry. Power flows back through a 3-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels located by trailing arms with leaf springs and up front a control arm suspension with coil springs and a sway bar works with the power steering and power front disc brakes to provide nice ride as well as good handling and control. Sharp looking American Racing alloy wheels with 235/70R15 white lettered tires mounted complete the picture. Good looking, nice driving, useful as a pick up and comfortable as a car.
