1990 Buick Reatta Convertible The Buick Reatta is a low-volume transverse front-engine, front-wheel drive, two-door, two-seater grand tourer/sports car manufactured and marketed by Buick as a coupe (1988-1991) and convertible (1990-1991) - both featuring a 3.8-liter V6 engine and shortened version of the GM E platform, the same one that underpinned the Buick Riviera. As Buick's first two-seater and its first convertible since the 1985 Riviera, the Reatta was manufactured in a highly specialized assembly program at the Reatta Craft Center (later known as the Lansing Craft Center) in Lansing, Michigan-achieving production of over 21,000 units in four years. For consignment a 1990 Buick Regatta Convertible with a consigner stated 45,250 miles. This was the last production year for this 2-seater car. Exterior Covered in white with areas where a similar but non-matching paint was used to cover scratches and chips, sums up the exterior steel. Hidden headlights are functioning, convertible top is in fair condition and does not retract due to difficulty with a nonfunctioning tonneau cover release which needs to release so the top has some where to go. A small rounded trunk area houses a trunk which is accessible via 2 locking panels located in the interior rear of the passenger compartment. Trunk is clean and covered in heavy duty felt-like material. Standard thick 5 spoke aluminum wheels are on all 4 corners. Interior Swinging open the long doors we are met with blue vinyl, with black inlays, and plenty of power conveniences. Power locks, power windows, power mirrors, and a 16-way power seat adjustment. As for the seats, two leather buckets flank a center console/glovebox/armrest/gear shift lever. Leather shows nicely with a few fold lines and nice patina. A turn of the ignition key reveals an all-electronic dash readout area, including a climate control center and AM/FM/Cassette radio. A leather wrapped steering wheel fronts the dash. Also noted is the aforementioned locking panels behind the seats that have access to the trunk. Drivetrain For 1991, the "L27" 3800 6-cylinder fuel injected engine and 4T60-E automatic transmission replaced the "LN3" and hydraulic 4T60 units. The engine runs smoothly, and the transmission shifts effortlessly. Some corrosion is seen on aluminum parts within the engine bay. Undercarriage Intermittent surface rust is seen throughout the undercarriage but is minimal. Floorpans, rockers and frame are very sound with little to no rust. A few "bottoming out" scratched areas are seen, and a small wet area is noted under the transverse mounted engine. This car sports a fully independent suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS, and front wheel drive. Top speed is electronically limited to 125 mph. A sporty little car whose short run was due to many complicated scenarios merging at the same time.
