Vehicle Description
Inspired by the Chevy pickups of the late 40s, the SSR went from show car to production car surprisingly fast because enthusiasts screamed for it. Bulging fenders, huge wheels and a V8 engine in a Retro pickup was an outrageous idea that GM actually went ahead and produced, although in limited numbers for only three years. This one could be yours. Come on down and check it out. The retro look has obviously become popular and has staying power. Everybody is building a modern version of an old classic. Modern classics? Maybe its because the styling was so cool back in the day. The broad swooping front fenders and hood on this truck definitely look cool! But the old pickups didn't have the wide wheels and tires of today or the aggressive stance of a sportscar. Up front there is a slash of silver across the gloss Black paint of the hood and grill with Chevrolet in script and a Chevy bowtie in the center. From the side, when the folding convertible hard top, built by ASC is up, the steeply sloped windshield and curved back window presents a bubble cab look on a pickup. When it is down, it has a super clean line across the top of the door which carries back over the rear fenders and along the bed cover to the tailgate which has a couple chrome exhaust pipes peeking out from underneath it. Open the door and you will find a beautiful Black interior full of modern comfort, convenience and safety features along with some sweet leather bucket seats. Those seats are power adjustable with two memory positions and are also heated for those cold winter days. The door panel has a retro look to it but also has modern speakers in it that pump out the sound from an AM/FM/CD player for your listening pleasure. The 4-spoke steering wheel has controls for the stereo and cruise control at your fingertips and sits in front of an instrument pod with the speedometer in the center, the tachometer on the left, and engine gauges off on the right. Below the radio in the center of the dash are the controls for the ventilation system that include those for the nice cold air conditioning. Below those are the power window and lock switches as well as buttons for traction control and the power operated roof. Pop the cover up and you will find a very spacious cargo area for hauling or stashing your belongings in for traveling. What would a retro-street rod/pickup be without a V8 motor? Well the SSR is equipped with GMs 5.3-liter Vortec V8 that pumps out 300 horsepower. It is tucked neatly down under that sloping hood and is topped by an SSR intake cover. An air snorkel reaches forward to feed in fresh, cold air and fuel injection, as well as computer controls mean it starts easily and runs strong. The power it makes is sent back through a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive for good off the line acceleration as well as comfortable highway cruising. 4-wheel disc brakes assure that you can haul this truck back down from speed with confidence if you let the horses run, and with a suspension that is tuned more for handling than hauling a heavy load, those brakes may come in handy. Filling up those bulging fenders are 5-lug alloy wheels that are staggered with 20s in the rear and 19s up front. The rubber meets the road through 295/40s in the back and 255/45s in the front. Come on down and check out this GM factory street rod. It is the best of retro style with modern comfort and convenience.
