Cragar Special Edition Mustang This Cragar Special Edition Mustang would be a unique addition for the serious Mustang collector. With over 50 variations of the famous Ford Mustang, the Cragar Special Edition conveys performance and styling from every angle. The marketing scheme developed by Cragar featured the iconic Classic wheels, body kit, cat back exhaust and custom brakes installed on stock Mustang GT package. The results are nothing short of an adult version of a “Hot Wheels” car guaranteed to attract attention at any car show or trip to the corner store. Being offered is a 2008 Cragar SE #0024 which is number 24 of 38 actual kits produced for the Mustang. The prototype Cragar SE was featured at the 2006 SEMA show where it placed #8 of all the Mustangs present. The Cragar SE option was offered and installed through select Ford dealers as an upgrade on a very limited basis with most of the vehicles sold in the Southwest. Although many pony alterations have been made available over the years, Global Entertainment Corp. of Phoenix, AZ, the marketing and distributor of Cragar products produced the less than 38 Mustang Cragar SE’s and a more successful run of Ford 150 pickups numbering around 90 vehicles. Offered as a $15,000 MSRP above the base cost of a Premium Mustang GT, the project barely made it off the launch pad with only a handful in existence and the promotion never survived long enough to complete their goal of a Cragar Camaro and a Cragar Challenger. The outrageous styling made possible with 11 quality urethane body parts produced by Kaminari Corp. really made the Mustang a real head turner. The wide body appearance with the bolt on fender flares resembles a true road track design accented with the Cragar Classic wheels with Nitto Tires offering a view of the slotted and drilled rotors and the well appointed blue Cragar brake calipers manufactured by SSBC (Stainless Steel Brake Corporation). Additional appointments of the special edition include Cragar badging with every view, interior details include a white Cragar shift ball and numbered dash plaque. The large hood scoop is functional, feeding a modified JLT cold air intake system. To assist in the breathing of this 4.6 liter, a set of stainless steel Kooks headers was installed followed by performance catalytic converters and to increase the fun, QTP electric exhaust cut-outs add to the roar when appropriate. Bringing back the excitement of the 60’s muscle car era is the “Detroit Rocker Cams” contributing to additional horsepower and that memorable lope while idling. What is a hot looking Mustang without the “giddy up” you need out of the hole, so we followed up all the other modifications by installing 4.10 gears in the rear end, a perfect match to the 5-speed standard transmission.
