Vehicle Description
From boulevard cruising to road course bruising, it's hard to find a better all-around performer than a modern Corvette. And now that Chevrolet has firmly established the car as a global tour de force, owners and tuners alike are constantly looking for ways to catapult their rides to the next level. A few years ago, Callaway Cars had the great idea of combining Chevrolet's highly optioned Grand Sport with hand-picked aesthetics and a 606 horsepower supercharged LS3. Today, that creation rolls as this fully-sorted Callaway SC606, a platform that blends superb performance in to everyday comfort and modern convenience. In the market for an awesome car that'll hold its own at the show or the strip? Have a look at this fearsome Corvette! BODYWORK/TRIM Glowing a mere 12,188 miles from its bright digital odometer, this razor-sharp Chevy is a well-maintained garage queen that's assembly line perfect in virtually every way. Brilliant Torch Red 2-stage remains a glossy and vivid testament to modern paint technology, and, according to the car's owner, has never seen rain. A clean CARFAX backs a lightweight body that displays precise fit and excellent finish under ancillary hardware that functions well and seals great. And when that level of quality is combined with Callaway's world class performance, it creates one seriously capable sports car that'll show with the finest classics and absolutely blister the road! The Grand Sport, mixing base Corvette mechanicals with the Z06's athletic profile, is easily one of the most popular offerings in the Corvette line-up. This SC606 began with a Grand Sport 2LT that was produced during the 60th year of Corvette production. At the front of the car, an aggressive fascia centers 60th Anniversary cross-flags between HID headlights, halogen fog lamps and a small splitter. Behind that fascia, a carbon fiber front-clip centers a carbon fiber Callaway hood bulge between subtle Grand Sport fins and small "SUPERCHARGED" scripts. Behind that clip, carbon fiber rockers frame sculpted doors, which cage a clean greenhouse under an option of two Targa roofs. At the back of the car, "CALLAWAY" branded quarters flow in to an aggressive diffuser, which plants polished Callaway exhaust amid optional Callaway exhaust slats. And that exhaust reflects a "CALLAWAY" branded valance that's complete with clean taillights, a carbon fiber spoiler and a second set of 60th Anniversary cross-flags. ENGINE Lift the hood and you'll find a world-class LS3 that utilizes a cast aluminum block, high-flow heads, a high-flow intake and an aggressive cam to turn 6.2 liters of combustion into an SAE certified 430 horsepower and 424 lb./ft. of torque. That award-winning mill is a thrilling companion for any car guy who has a pulse, and Callaway's numerous tweaks are a constant reminder that it doesn't take much to coax scary power out of Chevrolet's tried and true overhead valve technology. Naturally, a roots-style supercharger is the engine's biggest visual and auditory attention getter. But there are also many other upgrades, including Callaway's Honker air intake, an air/liquid intercooler and a beefier fuel injection system that helps twist a substantial 606 horsepower into 553 lb./ft. of torque! As you would expect, this Corvette's engine is tidy and clean, all the way from its carbon fiber, "CALLAWAY" emblazoned injector covers to its numbered Callaway plaque. And the best thing is, thanks to Callaway's internal bypass valve, the spry small block has the mild characteristics and excellent fuel economy of a stock LS3, so long as you don't engage the supercharger's boost. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Corvettes have always been great track cars, and this slick coupe benefits from years of engineering prowess perpetuated by Chevrolet's successful Le Mans race team. The car's wide fiberglass fenders cover a fully independent suspension that's fitted with speed-sensitive power steering and standard traction control. At the center of those bones, a tough Tremec TR6060 6-speed spins a limited-slip differential around stout, 3.42 gears. At the sides of that stellar drivetrain, Callaway's Double-D stainless exhaust weaves fire-breathing power into a symphony of octane-fueled roars. Stops are provided by requisite 4-wheel power disc brakes, which wrap C6 Z06 hardware in mandatory anti-lock software. And on the outside of those binders, glossy Grand Sport wheels spin 275/35ZR18 Goodyear Eagle F1s in front of 325/30ZR19 Goodyear Eagle F1s. All this state-of-the-art equipment enables exceptional cornering capability and effortless 3.8 second 0-60 sprints. And since this pristine coupe has, according to its present owner, never seen inclement weather, you can rest assured all its undercar components are just as Callaway left them. INTERIOR It's obvious that, throughout the evolution of the C6, designers have paid close attention to the constant belly-aching about the car's plain interior. And they've addressed most of the complaints with attractive packages like this coupe's sporty Red and Ebony cockpit. The car's power-adjustable seats are supple and supportive. A "CORVETTE" branded dash hangs electroluminescent telemetry between a small Head Up Display and premium infotainment, which pipes Navigation, Bluetooth and satellite radio through a 9-speaker Bose sound system. Below that dash, a broad console balances a Callaway short-throw shifter between Callaway mats, metal foot pedals and Callaway sills. In front of the driver, a leather-wrapped steering wheel laps an optional tilt and telescoping column. And naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a high dollar GM sports car are present and accounted for, including OnStar, Cruise Control, dual-zone climate control, power windows, Remote Keyless Entry and a standard theft deterrent system.
