Estimate: €80,000 - €100,000 Upgraded to five-speed manual transmission US-delivery example Retains its original engine Code-named W113, the encore to the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL was first introduced at the 1963 Frankfurt Auto Show as the 230 SL. The final version, the 280 SL, made its public appearance early in 1968. Most notable was the increased engine displacement to 2,778 cc, this time with a bump in both torque and horsepower to 180 bhp. Interiors were upgraded along with myriad detail refinements. The final 280 SL came off the assembly line in March 1971. A total of 23,885 280 SLs (including 8,047 for the 1969 model year) were produced during the model run, making it the most popular of all the roadsters built to date. Tastefully finished in dark blue metallic over a tan interior, this US-specification example was equipped with a four-speed manual transmission when new, but has now been fitted with a five-speed manual transmission. A wonderful driver-quality example that presents nicely throughout, a 280 SL is a car that never goes out of style and is just as lovely to behold today as the day it was announced over fifty years ago.
