Vehicle Description
We bought this G-wagon from New York and now it is located in Lansing, Michigan. This is a 1985 280ge with approximately 19,294 miles on the car(Analog ODO meter, may be rolled over). This is a rare car with W460 chassis and m110 motor. These are made as European military vehicles in 80s. It was imported by some very rich person to U.S with a Gasoline engine (6-cyl inline), factory air conditioner, Webasto auxiliary heater which preheats the cabin and engine block using Gasoline. This is a 4 speed automatic with manually engageable four wheel drive in High and low range modes. This also has Front and rear differential lockers. This also has PTO. It is a fully loaded, very rare G wagon for those days.
The "Good"
The car, drives, stops and the Auto Transmission shifts just fine. Shifts into 4 wheel just fine.
According to previous owner the following work has completed.
1. Fuel Tank Cleaned
2. Fuel Lines, Fuel filter and fuel pump.
3. Fuel Distributor, some injectors and warm -up regulator cleaned or replaced (Bosch K-Jet System)
4. Plugs, wires, distributor etc. and regular tune up.
5. Battery replaced, alternator and belt replaced (the belt could use tightening)
6. Exhaust Manifold, manifold gasket, EGR valve, and 02 sensor done.
7. Spring Perch in the rear replaced
8. Wiper Motor Rebuilt (needs to be reinstalled)
9. Brake calipers rebuilt, brake lines replaced, brake pads and rotors redone.
10. Grounds to headlights, fuses and other interior lighting sorted. Horn, signals etc. all sorted.
11. Original radio still works.
12. Heater blows hot air.
13. The AC and Webasto pre heater system may need a recharge or reconditioning.
14. Has an aftermarket Flow master exhaust system that gives it an aggressive sound.
15. The interior is in amazing shape and is virtually a time capsule. The original plaid Recaro seats are in excellent shape.
Car is a treat to drive, very capable and increasing in collectability.
The "Bad"
The car has rust spots (especially where is common for these cars) as pictured (by the windshield, front left floor panel, gas tank, rocker panels, tail lamp areas, and is missing some body trim etc. But the frame, body and car are in overall good condition and passed Newyork state safety inspection in October of 2019, and the safety inspections are not required in Michigan.
After bringing it to Michigan we installed a new Battery and found out that the rocker panels, left front floor panel, accelerator pedal clamp, rear tail lamp panels and all other trim, parts are available from Fourbyfourclub and expedition-imports. But the problem we are facing now is that my local restorers does not have time or indoor space available till spring to complete the body work. My teenage son needs the car ready by this January to take it to the college or sell it for a different one.
That said, this a serious, functional, capable German off roader for a light restoration or a full restoration project depending on your skill and resources. Sold as is. For any additional information call show contact info
