Vehicle Description
The previous owner stored it in a garage at their Morehead City summer home. It was used minimally when they vacationed from the northeast however meticulously maintained. That explains the low mileage and condition.
I purchased it for my daughter 6 months ago but she made some life decisions and no longer needs it. I bought the car with the intent of it meeting her needs for many years so I put a lot of money into it thinking she would be maintenance free.
Here are the highlights of the more important services:
2013 - Tuneup performed at 66k miles. Current mileage is under 79k.
2014 - New brake lines installed at 68k miles.
2018 - (4) new tires and a new spare tire at 73k miles. These tires are rated at 85k miles. There is minimal wear with over 70% life based on manufacturer's expected mileage.
2018 - Brand new convertible top. That's a $1500 top that has barely been used.
All previous maintenance was performed by the previous owner. I still have their receipts documenting the maintenance. All 2019 maintenance (below) performed by me.
2019 - New front wheel bearings, brake pads, calipers, and discs at 74k miles.
2019 - All (4) struts replaced with full body alignment. This was performed after the brakes, bearings, struts, etc.
Specifications:
2.4L twin cam Quad 4 cylinder engine 150HP. Front wheel drive with 4 speed automatic transmission. Estimated MPG 20 City / 28 HWY / 23 Combined.
Dual front airbags.
Air Conditioning. A/C works and doesn't leak. Car had a new compressor and A/C lines at 66k miles. The AC isn't ice cold but does the job.
Cruise control (not working currently). The cruise worked when I bought it but stopped. I haven't looked into it further.
Front wheel disc brakes and rear drum brakes with ABS.
Power convertible top, windows and door locks.
Delco stereo system with equalizer, compact disc, steering wheel controls and 6 premium speakers.
The Good:
This Pontiac runs really well. I would drive it anywhere and have taken it on long day trips. It starts strong and the 2.4L has a lot of power. Most of these cars had the 2.2L that struggled to accelerate when you needed it. The 2.4L doesn't have that problem.
There aren't any error codes or signs that there are engine issues. The car doesn't overheat, doesn't burn fluids, idles at the appropriate RPM and doesn't leak anywhere. We have no tolerance for leaking cars and this one is super clean. I attached a picture of the under body to show the absence of any leaking ever as well as demonstrating how straight this car is underneath.
All lights and gauges work well.
The steering is straight with no pull in either direction or shakes in the steering wheel.
Overall, the interior is very nice. The pictures show no rips or tears. The dash is pristine. You will see one tiny cut to the left of the dash panel but that's it. Otherwise the dash looks new.
The powered convertible top works perfect.
The car is one of those nice looking cars from 20 feet. It has dings, scratches, scrapes and discoloration on the paint. The picture makes the car look better than what it is in person. I want to be clear about that. It's solid without rust but not as sharp in person as what you're seeing in these pictures. The exception is the convertible top. It looks as new in person as the picture.
The Bad:
The brakes will occasionally grab a little when starting to put pressure on the brake pedal. The car stops really well but a little more aggressively in those infrequent situations. I didn't look into this before deciding to sell the car. I was very comfortable with my daughter driving it daily and felt no urgency to address it.
This is a typical GM J-Type car with quirks and rattles. The bodies feel cheap. They ran really exceptionally well with a lot of them hitting the 300k mile mark but the ride isn't smooth like heavier cars or better built GM cars. It will run longer than you want it to run though.
I'm upside down on the car and look forward to recovering as much as possible but we're not desperate to unload it so please - NO LOW BALLERS.
Leave a voicemail, text or email. I won't pick up an unknown number but will call you back if you leave a message. Too many robocalls and spammers.
