Vehicle Description
This is a 1999 Isuzu Trooper Luxury 4x4 with just under 101k original miles. It is a fully loaded example of what was, in its day, a highly technologically advanced yet extremely rugged and luxurious 4x4. The competition for Troopers when new where Land Rover Discoverys, Toyota Land Cruisers, and Mitsubishi Monteros. That is distinguished company.
It has a 3.5L V6 engine that makes 215 hp and is backed by a GM-made 4L30-E 4 speed automatic transmission. It also has the Isuzu top-of-the-line TOD (Torque On Demand) 4 wheel drive system which consists of a Borg Warner transfer case, Isuzu 12-bolt rear diff with limited slip, and an Isuzu 10-bolt front diff. While driving everyday, the Trooper is in 2wd mode sending power to the rear. When you push the 4WD button on the dash, it engages the TOD system which monitors the speed and slippage of each wheel and responds by sending anywhere from 0% to 50% of the power to the front wheels as necessary. TOD can be actuated "on the fly" at speeds below 60 mph. There is also an info graphic on the dash which tells you how much power is being sent to the front (very neat). For low range 4WD, you use the console mounted t-case lever to shift into low range and the power split, front to rear, is locked at 50%/50%. The Trooper is an extremely capable off road vehicle. It will go wherever you point it. And the suspension system is extremely flexible as well (A-arms with torsion bars on the front, solid axle with coil springs on the rear). This Trooper runs great, pulls and shifts strong, and the TOD 4WD system works flawlessly. The only known issue is an ABS light on the dash. The remedy is to replace an ABS wheel speed sensor that is extremely expensive these days, so I have elected not to replace it. The four wheel disc brakes still function exactly as they should.
Inside, the Trooper does not disappoint. The cabin feels open and airy due to the large windows and thin pillars (not at all claustrophobic like modern vehicles). It has leather seats, power windows, doors, seats, and mirrors, heated seats, and a huuuge sunroof. There are buttons on the console for "Winter mode" and "Power mode". Everything works exactly as it should and AC is ice cold. It also has factory fog lights, front tow hook, skid plates, receiver hitch, full size spare tire on matching rim (with hard cover), CD and cassette, compass/thermometer/barometer/altimeter, and tinted windows.
Since I have owned the Trooper, I have replaced the shocks (KYB Gas-A-Just), replaced bump stops, replaced alternator, replaced serpentine belt, inspected the timing belt (its in great shape, likely recently replaced by previous owner), replaced EGR and PCV valves, changed spark plugs, put on new Thrush Turbo muffler with turn-down tail pipe, and put on 4 new Goodyear Wrangler 245/75r16 tires.
Overall, the Trooper is an exceptionally nice vehicle. The styling is handsome. It's somewhat quirky, and definitely a product of it's time. These Troopers have become fairly rare and you don't see them very often anymore. You'd be hard pressed to find one nicer. I really enjoy driving it and it gets positive comments often.
I have a clean Tennessee title in my name. Mileage may go up as I do drive the Trooper occasionally, although it is not my daily driver.
I don't need to sell it, but I'm a car guy and I have that itch to get something new (to me) and different. I'm open to trades as well. Looking for something with a manual transmission. I really love vehicles from the 80s and 90s, and anything unique. Let me know what you got. I may be willing to negotiate, face to face, if you have cash in hand. Messages asking "what's the least you'll take" or insulting low-ball offers will be treated contemptuously and with mocking disdain. As will anything involving money orders, PayPal, or similar.
