1979 Mercedes 300D Diesel - $6,000 OBO
Light Blue with dark blue MB Tex interior and zebrano wood trim (all in tact, extremely rare exterior paint color).
PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS NOT A TURBO. The car has a turbodiesel badge, but the turbo diesel motor was not offered until 1981 in the United States.
157,000 Miles - less than 4,000 miles per year!
Cruise control, Air Conditioning, SLS (Self Leveling Suspension), all original. Rare color matching wheel covers. Includes chrome roof rack. Power windows and sunroof work.
This has been the most dependable and fun car. You simply can't get this kind of attention and fun of this money! These old Benzes are build like tanks - metal all of the way around, comfy MB Tex seats, climate control, cruise control, power everything. This beauty gets 30+ miles per gallon, and cruises comfortable on the highway at 80 mph.
I have owned this car since 2016, and have always had maintenance performed by Mercedes Benz specialists. The vehicle had a recent oil change and service inspection. I bought the car in New York, then moved with it to Utah, then New Orleans, and now Kentucky. I am including a car cover, windshield cover, specialty wrench and feeler gauges for timing adjustments. The car also has the spare tire, the original tool kit, and first aid kit that came with it from the factory.
IMPROVEMENTS
Discreet high powered Sony (55 watts per channel) stereo hidden in glove box. Interior appears all original. The stereo in this car is nearly $1000 total, all purchased from Crutchfield.
Kicker sub and amp in trunk
Infiniti speakers in factory locations
Hella high performance headlights
LED dash lights
Brand new battery with three year warranty form Auto Zone
New Dynamite hood liner for noise / heat control
COMMON ISSUES
This is 43 year old car. It has some very common issues, including:
Carpet wear
The passenger side carpet worn out and removed under the front seat
Paint
A little faded and tired. There are some spots where the paint has worn through and there is a small amount of rust presenting (mostly on the driver's door and front quarter panel). There is no rust in the underbody or frame. It is very subtle and not noticeable unless you are standing next to the car. This ain't no rust bucket!
Pneumatic locks
These cars have a "power" lock system that relies on air pressurized lines to function. It is very common for these to fail, meaning you have to manually lock the doors.
Air conditioning
I have needed to recharge this every year, meaning there is a slow leak somewhere in the system.
Thanks!
