Stealth Camping 2006 Mercedes Sprinter Van *2500 High Roof 158 WB* (City Stealth Friendly)
For sale is my 2006 Dodge (really a Mercedes inside and out, the only thing Dodge is the emblem on the steering wheel and the hood. For whatever reason Mercedes temporarily imported them as Dodge as they are a part of the same auto group). I have been using this van for stealth camping in Oregon as well as Southern California for the last four months and I don't need it anymore since I moved into an apartment.
This was previously a FedEx Delivery Van which makes it extremely great for city van life / stealth camping. I have never received a knock on my door by police by following some very simple “vaner” rules which I am happy to pass along. The vehicle runs very well and they are expected to go 500,000 miles without much work. I recently had the turbo replaced (number one issue with these vans) in preparation to sell it.
The following is what I have personally done to the van since purchasing it this past summer:
1. Turbo resonator upgrade as well as the EGR Valve, O2 sensor and the main wire harness. Digital speed governor of 65 mph removed. $1950 in parts and labor.
2. Installed an auxiliary batter bank and charging system. An VSR (volt sensitive relay) charges an auxiliary batter bank that is comprised of three 100 Amp Hour 12v Deep Cycle batteries that are wired together in parallel making for 300 Amp Hours of battery power. The VSR means that you will never deplete your starting batter and be stranded by charging your auxiliary batteries. The VSR uses your alternator to charge your batteries while your engine is running.
3. Installed a 2000W Renogy Pure Sine Wave Inverter/Charger. This inverter will facilitate easy expansion into future solar panels as well as “shore charging.”
4. Installed electric fuses and a fuse box on a “power board” for future 12v power devices.
5. Installed a Nature’s Head Composting Toilet ($1000 toilet). This toilet separates your number one from your number two and it DOES NOT SMELL! It is extremely easy to manage your waste and I am happy to show you how this is done.
6. Installed an extremely solid and sturdy platform bed frame. This bed frame is bolted into the van frame and is large enough to facilitate a normal Full-Size Mattress. The under structure is reinforced with “L-Brackets” and uses a notched system of 2x4’s and 5-ply plywood that is extremely strong. This makes for ample storage space under the bed.
7. Installed a kitchen with working plumbing including a 5-gallon freshwater and grey water tank that are extremely easy to refill/dump.
8. Purchased a Dometic, Dual Zone Refrigerator Freezer CFX 95DZW ($1,400) This is an amazing product that allows you to have ample refrigerating and freezing ability. This can run off of 12V or AC Power. I also purchased an extender cord so that it can safely run off the 12V cigarette lighter in the front cab to save battery power.
9. Installed 4-R insulation all throughout the van via Reflectix Styrofoam and Great Stuff Spray foam as well as pink insulation with the door panels that have electric wiring so that it can be removed and put back in should you ever have to work on the wiring.
10. Installed white MDF wall panels to replace the ugly grey plastic wall panels that FedEx had installed on the van.
11. Installed Masterlock Commercial “clasp locks” on the sliding side door and the back doors for extra security and to make the vehicle look more commercial.
12. Purchased and installed an IKEA Kitchen Counter.
The vehicle has the following items included:
1. 100% commercial look making the van extremely “stealth” and absolutely not stand out in any light industrial / commercial area.
2. Back up camera with monitor installed in cab.
3. Commercial Sun Visors.
4. Strong bulkhead that separates the cab from the cargo area with a heavy-duty locking aluminum door. This makes the cargo area ridiculously safe!
5. ODB II Reader in case you get check engine codes. ($100 device)
6. Fire Extinguisher.
7. Safety Vest and hard hat. These are dummy stealth camping props, but the vest comes in handy quite often.
8. Internal Cab lights for the cargo area that will run with the engine off.
9. Intake and Output fan that does need the power on to run. This can easily be tied to the battery bank power.
10. Running Board / Step on the rear of the van.
11. Small Pantry cupboard with push button lock.
12. Step ladder for bed.
13. Second set of keys.
*Please note that the desk, folding chair and white dorm room storage bins will be coming out.
I am happy to show the van in a busy, public place for everyone’s safety in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles and in San Bernardino County.
If you want a private viewing you will need to PayPal $25 that will be returned to you upon showing up to the appointment. If you don’t show the $25 will be kept as a “no-show fee.”
