Vehicle Description
This is a 2004 Subaru Baja Turbo, with 5-speed manual transmission. I've driven and loved this car/pickup for years, but now I'm moving out of state and can't take it with me. Engine was rebuilt by the previous owner shortly before I bought it, sometime around 2013, and I've put probably 40-50k miles on it since. Clutch was replaced about three or four years ago. Engine has always run strong, transmission has never given me any problems.
Now, to address the rough edges: as you surely saw in the pictures, The passenger side door and fender are not original, and the rear door has damage. Someone hit the passenger side at a very low speed (they were beginning to roll away from a stop sign and we were still in the middle of the intersection) and we had to replace those parts. I left the rear door alone as I intended to just put the plastic cladding back on to cover it, but the front door and fender are obviously different colors and will need a repaint. I swapped over the original door panel from the Baja and painted the jamb side of the door before putting it on, so all they need are the exterior painted. I was planning on doing it eventually, but in the meantime I've been driving the car as-is and the technicolor passenger side hasn't hurt its drivability.
Another couple things that will need to be looked into: the front axles click while turning sometimes, so those will likely need to be replaced soon. Also an intermittent oil leak has sprung from behind the front engine cover. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it leaks directly onto the hot front exhaust pipe and is enough to create a dramatic amount of smoke. I've driven it carefully since it first happened and it's dry more often than not, but its something that the next owner should look into. Forums seem to point toward a simple cam or crank seal, but I haven't torn into it to see.
I was planning to fix these issues and continue driving it forever as this is really a darling of a pickup, but sadly my priorities are going in another direction. I really love this thing and hope the next owner will appreciate its potential.
