Vehicle Description
Gorgeous garnet red crystal diamond pearl colored ’40 Ford Truck built by the famed custom builders at Jesse’s Hot Rod Shop of New York. The deceptively simple-appearing custom endured three years before finally emerging as the stunning, understated cruiser that took the power show tour across the country coast to coast by storm. This cool ride has taken the top spot on the podium!
The finished street rod if your intention of saying has a few upgrades to improve and personalize would be the understatement of the decade. Like so many projects this was an ambitious goal to make a timeless custom. The top was chopped 2 ½ inches and received a pie cut. The rain wells have also been smoothed. The hood had 1 ½ inches taken out and extended 1 inch. The iconic Ford grill was brought forward, but the lower section remained. This gives a more aggressive forward look. The fenders also received a pie cut adding 1 inch to bring them out. The headlights were brought back ½ inch for a more streamline look. Rear drivers side fender has a custom-built gas tank door. Tailgate is a work of art. The heavy steel gate has the latch on the inside to keep to clean lines. The bed is wood lined with a non-slipcover keeping to a period correct look. One only must look at the door and hood gaps to the level of craftmanship.
The scope of the project was to incorporate traditional elements into a timeless design. The dashboard is a blending of the original truck and coupe dash. The instrument panel is a custom made one off keeping to classic look. The center grill is hiding the rear air ride controls. Creature comforts as Vintage Air & heat and defrost are a must for cruising. Electric windows, power door locks, remote entry, and yes electric wipers. Interior is two-tone leather bench seat and door panels. The headliner is suede and wool carpet with custom floor mats with Ford V8 logo. For your safety the bench seat does have seat belts. No need to ever get under the dash! The fuse box, relays, battery, stereo power amp, and rear air ride compressor is all conveniently located under the bench seat.
The mustang II style independent front suspension with power rack and pinion steering. Power front disc brakes and rear drums is safe at any speed. Adjustable rear air shocks and a Ford 9-inch rear end. Take a look under the tailgate a polish stainless steel fuel tank.
Power comes from a Corvette fuel injected TPI 350ci that has been built 30,000 over with a performance cam. Plus, larger fuel injectors, and computer programmed to the new cam power curve. The 4L60E (700R) transmission gives exactly when to shift by the computer and it allows for more accurate conditions-based shifting. It also allows for more than one set of shift points to be programmed into the transmission for high performance modes. The ’40 has the power and attitude to back it up!
The modifications for the Ford were so well designed, integrated, and skillfully executed by the Jesse’s Hot Rod team that the untrained eye might miss them. Making it into the top custom honors adds another accolade in what is sure to be a long and successful run for this beautiful Ford.
