Vehicle Description
For sale is a 1963 Sunbeam Alpine. An Alpine appeared in the television series The Saint starring Roger Moore from 1962 to 1969 and which also was driven by James Bond in the film Dr. No. The car became more famous when Carroll Shelby fitted it with a Ford V8 engine and created the Sunbeam Tiger. Tigers have increased in value pretty dramatically over the years.
This is a Series 3 Alpine which retains the taller tail fins before The Roots Group/Sunbeam reduced them in 1964 after a Ford lawsuit. It has the original 1592 cc, engine, which has been freshly rebuilt. 1963 is the first year the Alpine was made with vacuum boosted brakes. Carburetion has been upgraded from the original single Solex carburetor to the twin 150 CD Zenith Strombergs that were fitted on the later 1725 cc Series V Alpines.
This 1963 Sunbeam Alpine was partially disassembled and stored for a long time and then purchased and restored/reassembled by the previous owner over the last 3-5 years. It was bought from a British car shop in Seattle where the owner had it for many years until he retired and closed the shop. He had prepared and primed the reportedly rust free, accident free body and chassis. Very nice straight body, doors, bonnet, trunk all fit very well. At the time it was purchased by the previous owner, it was reasonably complete and included the original engine that needed to be rebuilt. He spent a lot of time locating missing parts, buying 2 different parts cars to locate hard to find parts. He rebuilt many parts, had other parts rebuilt, bought many new parts and has just about completed the restoration. The sale includes all proper chrome parts and badges (not in the pictures) and complete tool kit, chrome hub caps, bumpers - look great - no dents - with a little original patina.
The car has been been repainted with an original 60's Alpine color Orchid Green, a light green available on the Series V Alpines. The paint is nice and looks great, but is not perfect (a partial can of paint is included for final touchups). The engine has been professionally rebuilt by a race car engine rebuilder. It has been started very briefly to ensure it’s a running engine after rebuild. Wiring modifications and carb adjustments need to be done prior to running the engine longer.
The reassembly is almost complete. The interior is complete but the seats have not been bolted in and some of the new carpet has not been installed until final wiring installation in the interior and dash are completed. A new soft top remains in the box.

Any questions, or more pictures, please let me know. This car needs a good home with an owner that will complete this long term restoration and enjoy this little beauty. Happy to entertain offers.
