Vehicle Description
This little California bus is a one of a kind custom camper 1968 was the first year of the type II bay window, following the era of the split window. This bus has an interior that is very similar to the classic Westfalia camper van, but this camper was custom kitted out by Riviera.
Riviera’s are much rarer, especially for a 1968 The riveted sliding windows and the wood panel interior make this thing feel like a sailboat. Soooo much fun to drive! It has been a killer little surf bus, and has rallied all over California and now all the way to northwest Arkansas.
Brand new 1776cc crate motor, still has j tubes and working heat
Windows-out paint job 2016, done by highly reputable Miracle Auto Restorations in San Rafael. The two tone cream and light blue/gray are both original ’68 VW colors (though this bus’ stock color was one tone cream).
Disc brakes and front end rebuild 2019 – Disc brakes are a must have upgrade. Included steering box, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, and sway bar kit.
All new fuel lines and cables 2019
Replace exhaust system 2016
Note that there is some water damage in the interior by the back seat. This was there when I bought it and has not been an issue, especially since I replaced the seals when painted. No leaks.
Kids hammock in front – Classic vintage style, but brand new. Great for extra storage when camping.
Micro pop-top – New tent installed – Perfect for fresh air while camping, standing, and changing.
Bench seat pulls out into comfortable full/queen bed
Original custom frog hardware pulls
Original 1968 owners manual
Other – Replaced fuel pump, ignition, starter, horn, clutch, window cranks, Installed the front and rear “VW” emblems last week I’ll try to include pictures, brand new interior carpet done last month and brand new sunvisors.
I have well over $15,000 worth of receipts on this bus and all the original paper work and dealer service record dating back to 1968
