Magazine excerpt:
“1969- Year of the Snake. Torino Cobras started it. Driven by racing’s top pros, these specifically modified SportsRoofs punched the ticket 1, 2, 3 in the Riverside 500. After that the wins came fast: The ARCA 300, the fabulous NASCAR win at the Daytona 500 and the Carolina 500 at Rockingham. And that’s only the beginning! Torino was the Big Crunch las year too, winning the championship in all three major racing circuits: NASCAR, USAC and ARCA. That oughta tell you something about the automobile!
For those of you who’d rather drive performance cars than eat… we’ve built Cobra. It’s the street version of the racing Torino Cobra. And because we know the good guys aren’t always rich guys, we make it all basic muscle. Dig the standard specs. From an article online:
“Firstly, “Cobra Jet” is the coolest engine name ever. The Cobra Jet was a high-performance version of Ford’s 428 big-block and it was so laughably underrated that even the NHRA ignored Ford’s numbers. The engine was rated by Ford at 335 horsepower, but the NHRA gave it a 390-horsepower rating. Most experts including autojournalist Roger Huntington acknowledge that the true output is about 410 horsepower.”
