Vehicle Description
For your careful consideration of how you would like to spend the next 4-1/2 years of your life, procuring replacement parts, performing major restorative work and struggling with your time management to fulfill your dreams of owning a 1981 Cosmos Silver Scirocco “S” with factory sunroof, air conditioning and a 5-speed manual. I owned a different ’81 Scirocco “S” back when it was new, and in a desperate attempt to relive the glory days, I have found, purchased, and loved back-to-life a 1981 “S” about every 9 years since then. This is #4 in my lifespan, and it is too much of a project for me to tackle at this stage. I have established a price point to make this a no brainer for the MK1 Scirocco “S” enthusiast, you know who you are, there are only about eleven of us for every 10 million citizens.
Items that I know that it does need: a windshield, a fuel pump, a warm-up regulator, the original heavy bolstered “S” front seats, left and right outside mirrors, "S" driver side door trim. It suffered a minor front end collision in the left fender and I can see ancient repair work. The driver door outer skin has a gouge, which appears to be unrelated. The only minor rust that I can find is in the leading and trailing edge driver side door sill under the plastic thresholds and some roof perforations. All mechanical systems will need full rebuilding. A portion of the paint is original, but fried, and the entire car will need body work and paint.
The brakes do actually work as well as the e-brake, and the clutch pedal does disengage the transmission. This car was driven into a repair facility around 1999 in central Oregon, and it was legally lien sold to the repair facility in 2000. I have the certified original paperwork from the DMV. Then this poor car languished outside in the sun and rain for 22 years. If you have read to the end, then I think YOU are the guy to see this project though.
