Vehicle Description
This is a 1984 El Camino Conquista. The present owner acquired the car approximately nine years ago. The original odometer showed about 96,000 miles. The new instrumentation currently shows about 8700. That’s about what the new engine, transmission and rear end have on them. The oil was changed within the last hundred miles (May 2021) and a Delco battery was purchased from Poormans in Wichita Kansas and installed July 30 2021. The engine is a Blue Print Engines 383 stroker. It puts out 440 hp and 480 pound feet of torque at the crank. It has aluminum heads and full roller rockers and roller cam. The compression ratio is 10.5 to 1. There is also a Edelbrock manifold and a 750 Holley carburetor. 1-800-Radiator supplied the direct fit aluminum two row radiator. The transmission is a 700R4 built stout with all the right parts and installed by Tim and his guys at T and M Automotive west of Andover Kansas. The hydraulic locking torque converter was manufactured by Neil Chance Transmissions in Wichita and was also installed by T and M Auto. The console mount shifter is a B and M Mega. The driveshaft was rebuilt with new U joints and balanced by Power Drive in Wichita. The rear end is a 9 inch installed by Holzman Racing, Wichita with a 3:73 locking differential built by Lewis Haddock of Shawnee Oklahoma. The rear end upper links are adjustable and the lower are boxed in stock links. Power disc brakes all around. Fronts are stock and the rear brakes are from The Right Stuff Co. Monroe shocks front and rear. 15 inch Halibrand Wheels. Fronts are 15 x 6 and the rear are 15 x 8 held on by Gorilla brand lug nuts. Front tires are BF Goodrich TA radials and the rear are Mickey Thompson street slicks. The custom dual exhaust was built and installed by Bill‘s American Muffler in Wichita. This car was originally two tone but is now painted a one color Wanda brand crystal claret tint coat. The owner removed all of the outside trim and most of the interior for the color change. The old paint was removed by Soft Strip LLC in Wichita Kansas. Terry, Keith and crew at Eye Candy Garage in Wichita did what little bodywork needed to be done and after paint they put a three stage buff on it. They also aligned the hood, fenders, doors and reinstalled the outside trim. Dave’s Detail in Andover Kansas applied the Ceramic coating. Virtually all of the exterior parts are new and came from Original Parts Group. Gene Shockly at Robbys Hobbies in Wichita removed the anodized coating from all of the exterior aluminum and was polished to a chrome like finish by Jonathan at Elite Metal Finishing in Wichita. The car came equipped with power steering, power brakes, cruise control (an aftermarket cruise control has replaced the original), air conditioning, power door locks and an inside adjustable drivers rearview mirror. Remote door locks were added by The Radio Shop in Wichita. The owner replaced the instruments with Dolphin gauges and built the wire harness. Some of the interior plastic parts are new but all were painted to match and reinstalled at Eye Candy Garage. The carpet, door sill plates, headliner, sun visors and mounting hardware, rear curtain and dome light are new. Dale and the guys at Stylecraft in Wichita upholstered the door panels and door pulls to match the Pro Car Elite Lumbar DLX (adjustable lumbar) seats and installed the carpet. The steering wheel is covered in Wheelskins leather installed by Unique Upholstery in Wichita. The owner has purchased parts from Halls Speed Shop and Poorman Auto Supply both in Wichita, Summit Racing and others.
