Vehicle Description
Hey all,
I have an 84 Ford Econoline Van I am just way in over my head with! I bought it in May of 2018 with hopes of fixing it up and completely converting it into a living space for my pup and I. Since then i have procrastinated a good chunk of time to this point of being overwhelmed with it. I know there is a lot going for this van, just out of my means to take care of. I know that someone else could get great use out of it.
The motor specifically (302 cubic in 5.0 L V8) is said to run forever, and was serviced and one of the rods was replaced recently before I became the owner. I just had the transmission looked at and it is shifting smoothly, around 250,000 original miles.
First of all, it could use a tune up, and then the engine would run very smooth. Right now it's running rough on acceleration and even worse up hill because of that(spark plug and distributor cap wearing). Very easy to take care of and it's been looked at and diagnosed by two mechanics.
There is also a smog issue- when getting my starter replaced, my mechanic noticed there were signs that a fire had happened under the doghouse and then concealed by a previous owner. I've put about $500 dollars into the smog system, replaced the smog pump itself and one diverter valve, just a few months ago in August of 2019. I was quoted about $300 dollars more to get the van to pass smog, which it needs to be registered. It hasn't had a smog or been registered since I have been in possession of it because of this.
It is also missing a window, the back right door window is missing. I recently went to a pick n pull to grab another one, and got one from a Chevy van so it doesn't pop on as easily as I thought, definitely could be fixed with a little welding, or metal fabrication. I can definitely throw that in, as a replacement window I was quoted for the Ford is about $450!
The gutter along the back of the van is rusted out also, causing water to get in when it rains. Fixable with silicone or again, a little metal fabrication.
Sliding door also broken, but very simple fix, just one screw.
I have also put quite a bit of love and attention into Peaches since we've been together.
Ive had:
-starter/starter solenoid replaced ($500)
-front and back brakes replaced July 2018 ($700)
-smog pump, one air valve replaced ($500)
-engine pan rethreaded ($300)
-two new tires put on in July 2018 ($300)
-new alternator April 2018
-U joints replaced July 2018
So I know there are a few things that need attention:
-tune up (quoted $400)
-back window/gutter
-smog system (quoted $300)/registration
-sliding door screw
(both of these quotes are by mechanics in Santa Cruz I could definitely refer you to)
Interior is worn, sweet faux wood look inside the van, captains chairs which swivel and lock into place, heater/AC work, although the AC could be colder. tape player is busted, and the carpet has been removed, revealing the metal flooring underneath. More pictures definitely available if requested!
For just under a grand on immediate repairs you could have a super solid van that will last a long time if general maintenance is done. I love this thing just need to be realistic of my situation financially and know that winter is coming and there's someone out there who could benefit and take advantage of this situation a little better than I.
I am flexible on price, I know what it's worth but also understand repairs need to be done. I'm putting all this love and energy into the universe and I know it will work out. So much love to everyone who can read this : )
