Vehicle Description
Selling my '85 Vanagon Westy with a 2.0 ABA engine swap out of a late 90's Jetta. It has NO. RUST! Van has 294k original miles as indicated by the dash but when I bought it the speedometer cable was not functional thus I am not sure exactly how many miles are on the chassis. This being said most vanagons have had a broken speedo cable and most will not be 100% accurate.
Here's my story with the van: I bought it about 6 months ago with the swap already in the vehicle but it wasn't running right and not making as much power as it should have been. I bought a replacement from Gundies Auto Wrecking and had my mechanic install it along with a new timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, spark cables, coil pack, and alternator. The van was in pretty rough shape needing a whole bunch of things. I have gotten around and taken care of almost everything but some things still need to be fixed such as: AC needs to be recharged, the rear bumper isn't aligned perfectly, and the engine will smoke on start up a bit. The battery and OXS light stay on but I'm not sure why.
Other than the engine I have:
Replaced batteries
Added auxiliary battery setup with converter and 115v outlets as well as USB ports
Installed wireless reverse Camera
Digital coolant gauge with other readable parameters such as speed, air temp etc.
Replaced trunk strut
Brake fluid flush
minor wiring issues causing rear lights not to work
Replaced dull OEM headlights with LED conversions wires for orange turn signals as well (original headlights included with sale)
New camper top
New speedometer cable
Replaced faulty odometer lights with LEDS
replaced rear incandescent with LED strips
Repainted passenger side and blended because of some deeper scratches
I'm sure there are some more things I've done that I've forgotten but if you ask I can let you know if it's been done. I have receipts for almost everything. The van runs great, drives easily, and doesn't really need anything to hit the roads or mountains. It's got bigger offroad tires with at least 85% tread remaining so that's great. The brakes and steering feel very solid as well.
Pretty much got the van where I'm happy with it but I'm looking to buy another one to do a newer TDI swap. Selling my van to be able to start another Vanagon project with the TDI swap.
Asking $19700 and willing to negotiate but I'm in no rush to sell. Clean Title in hand. It isn't perfect but definitely one of the cleaner ones. If you have any questions reach out anytime.
