Our ownership and why we're selling:
We purchased this bus near the beginning of COVID, about a year ago. We've owned 15+ VWs and are big German Engineering fans. Reason for selling is that we are restoring a 1970 911 and cannot justify keeping up with both as things go back to normal and our life speeds back up. We are in absolutely no hurry to sell. More photos to come. If you're seriously interested, read the whole ad and please reach out.
Vehicle History:
We purchased from who is believed to be the second owner (making us the 3rd, you would be the fourth)
The van was originally purchased and kept in Southern California, San Diego area. At one point, the original owner had it repainted the original yellow cream color and redid the upholstery to a more durable material as he had a large dog and it was his surf vehicle. The interior is in very good condition. the material he upgraded to is extremely durable and you can get any stain out. the backs are a cognac brown leather(ette) while the fronts and cushions are a blue stripe that compliments the yellow exterior very well.
The second owner purchased it then fell very ill so it sat for 3+ years, at which point she sold it to us.
As mentioned, we've had it a year. We've driven it around the peninsula, Santa Cruz, down Big Sur, etc. and really enjoyed it. Everywhere we go, we get tons of attention and people stop us to talk about it. It's a real head turner. She's an automatic. Anyone can drive her. She's a BLAST to drive.
If you are not mechanically inclined, and/or don't have a reliable mechanic and a budget for ongoing maintenance/repairs, consider looking at a newer conversion van or eurovan. Westy's need pretty constant love - ask any Westy owner. That being said, we've taken great care (with a book of records to prove it) to sort all the major issues. With proper maintenance, you won’t need to worry about engine or transmission for 100k miles.
Over $16,000 in receipts come with the vehicle.

2021 Records:
- At 99,071 miles/ March 2021, we had the automatic transmission rebuilt by Aamco in Santa Cruz (wonderful people up there). The transmission has an 18 month warranty that expires April, 2022. She runs amazingly well and can take any hill. Slowly, but surely.
Since we've owned her, she's been serviced exclusively by C&C auto repair in Monterey. We've been told by both C&C and AAMCO that this is by far one of the nicest Westfalia's they've ever seen.
I wouldn't hesitate to take her just about anywhere. happy to have your mechanic check her out, at your expense.
We are considering replacing the following, time and interest pending:
The center carpet has a 10" x 3" wear spot. We may replace the carpet prior to sale.
The rear kickplate of the back seat/bed has speakers in it. We are planning to replace that kickplate as well.
The set of window curtains is incomplete. They may be replaced prior to sale.
I will update this ad as we perform various updates.
We have not tested the stove, sink, or fridge. Presumed to be in original working order with proper hookups.
Under the driver's seat, it's evident that the original owner had an auxiliary battery hooked up. Shouldn't be too difficult to set up again.
There was a radio hooked up with front & rear aftermarket speakers. We removed the speakers when installing the new deluxe door cards. The radio would need re-wired to new speakers if you wanted to keep that. You could use the rear speakers if we don't replace that kick plate prior to sale. Otherwise, the stereo may be deleted entirely.
The front dash has a crack down by the shifter.
Body is in great condition given its age and how long she sat, however there are a few surface rust spots as is expected with these vehicles.
Both front seats swivel.
We have gone through and made sure the squeaks and rattles are nearly non-existent, which makes for a wonderful driving experience.
We are asking $38,000 obo. Looking for the right owner to pass her on to.
Clean title, in hand. Current Registration. New engine. New automatic transmission with Warranty.
All original camper cabinetry. Beautiful camper, ready to go. Will be taking to smog once we have time.
Serious buyers only. Do not need help selling. Certainly not in a hurry.
