Vehicle Description
This 1986 AMC Eagle wagon is not road worthy due to mid-frame rust. But it has a good engine and transmission that may be just what you need for a Jeep build. The vehicle is capable of moving under it's power to the flatbed truck that will be needed to pick it up.
This posting is meant as a sale of the engine, transmission and the rear axle attached to a car, plus any remaining scrap value.
The engine was rebuilt in 2006 and was powering the vehicle for 6,460 mostly highway miles since the rebuild.
Here is a description of what was done during the rebuild:
1) New standard size pistons were installed. No re-boring was needed, just glaze braking.
2) A Comp Cams model 240H camshaft and lifter kit was installed. This cam is designed for the 800 to 4000 RPM range, which gave excellent low RPM performance and decent mileage. This cam allowed the use of the stock springs and valves, which were in good shape.
3) The cylinder head was port matched to the exhaust manifolds. The intakes line up with the stock intake ports.
4) The cylinder head combustion chambers were mildly "ported". They were not significantly modified, only casting flash, etc. was removed to improve the factory gas flow.
5) The piston rings, rod, main bearings and rear main seal were replaced, along with the freeze plugs.
5) The computer controlled BBD carburetor was rebuilt and is still installed. All computer controls apparently work, although it is popular to replace the BBD with an Autolite Model 2150 or similar carburetors.
6) Timing chain and sprockets replaced with a Cloyes kit.
7) Oil pump replaced with a Melling standard pressure and volume unit.
8) All engine gaskets were replaced.
9) All engine sensors replaced.
10) The new valve cover with an improved gasket has proven to be leak free.
11) A new starter was installed at 168,362 miles.
12) New distributor wires were installed.
The transfer case uses a viscous coupling unit (New Process 119), rather than the open differential the 1986 Eagle originally used. The transmission is the stock Chrysler 3 speed unit. I believe it is a model; 904.
The title is clean and I regularly start the engine to make sure it is working well.
