Vehicle Description
$33,000 OBO
Selling a very clean and mechanically sound VW Vanagon Westy. I purchased it in 2013 or so from the second owner who only picked it up from the original owner in Colorado maybe a couple months before I bought it. Since that time, I have had a LOT of fun traveling in this van and restoring it as I go. Many extras, lots of mechanical work and upgrades done to keep this on the road for years to come. All said, it's in awesome shape for a 30+ year old vintage van, and I get compliments every single time I take it out of the garage. I definitely don't those kinda looks in my Subaru!
Vehicle Details and Upgrade/Replacement Notes:
- Clean Washington title; I am the 3rd owner
- Van is babied and garaged 100% of the time it’s not on the road.
- Currently has collector vehicle plates (no annual licensing fees)
- 2.1L Water Cooled Engine (original)
- Automatic Transmission
- Westy camper package (sink and propane cook top, all functional. No fridge, No AC)
- All original window screens, skylight screen, and snap in window privacy shades.
- Interior is all original and clean, complete and un-modded original (with exception of interior panel of rear slider door, replaced with black ABS panel from GoWesty, I still have the original upholstered panel if you want it). Note that the interior is tan/brown. I'm not sure why some of the photos look like the steering wheel and some parts are black. I did replace the window cranks with the GoWesty heavy duty window cranks ($30 a piece) which are totally bomber compared to stock and many inferior replacements (which I tried first and they broke as soon as they got cold!).
- All fuel lines and hoses replaced within the last year
- Brand new fuel tank, seal kit, and sending unit by Small Car Performance in Fife in 2019
- New fuel injectors and fuel rails from GoWesty last year
- Replaced entire exhaust system (headers, catalytic converter, muffler, all hardware) with stainless kit from GoWesty last year
- New alternator and GoWesty heavy duty mounting brackets two years ago
- Upgraded plate steel GoWesty bumpers
- South African Grill kit and round headlights installed 3 years ago (I still have the original grill, buckets and square headlights if you want to switch it back)
- Added center LED brake light in rear window (not sure the kit, either GoWesty or VanCafe).
- Body repainted in 2013.
- Top repainted 2021. New decals and all poptop and skylight seals replaced at same time
- Original canvas on poptop, no tears or stains
- VanCafe poptop waterproof rain fly included (tan/gold in color, seen in one of the photos; it goes around the entire tent, and over the top of the luggage rack too which is very nice)
- All glass is good, no cracks; Windshield and seal replaced 2018
- Original pads on top bunk and bottom bed all in excellent condition
- Wheels replaced with Audi 16” steel rims, center bored to fit over wheel hub; All rubber on SUV rated tires in great shape
- Added Burley Motorsports swing away tire carrier with matching full-size spare, same Audi rim as the rest with new tire; I also have another spare tire that matches the ones on the van that goes with sale. The original spare tire and cover is still installed in the front of the van.
- Refrigerator has been removed and already sold. It never got very cold and wasn't much more than a glorified breadbox, so I ditched the weight. A GoWesty fridge removal kit has been installed in its place.
- South African truck style mirrors installed; I think I still have the original side mirrors and they’ll be included
- BlazeCut fire suppression system included, not installed yet
- New utility hookup connections and covers installed last year
- New starter in 2019
- Replaced rear wheel bearings, cv joint/boots in 2016
- Coolant lines and thermostat replaced 2018
- Replaced spark plugs, wires, tune up, in 2020. I have a new cap and rotor that has not been installed yet, but included.
- New big brake kit (larger front disc brakes for much improved stopping distance) installed and rear brakes rebuilt by Small Car Performance in 2019.
- All lights, heaters, electrical components work no problem. New battery in 2017.
- Alpine deck with iPod/USB hookup, new Alpine full range door speakers installed. I have brand new Alpine replacement speakers for the rear, but I haven't installed them yet.
- I have a bunch of extra parts, maintenance manual, etc. that will all go with the van.
- Minor interior items that I never got around to fixing: Dash pad is sun damaged/cracked, some cabinet trim needs repair, the top overhead cabinet latch in rear is broken (but have replacement latch in hand), and the original curtains are a little sun faded.
- The speedometer works just fine, but the odometer and trip meter stopped working in 2013. The mileage was 115k miles at the time, and I've probably put 60-70k on it since then. These are original miles, odometer not rolled over. It spent most of its early life parked. I was told it was something of a 'barn find' by the second owner who I purchased it from.
- I'm sure I'm forgetting something here, so I'll update this as I remember. All major work was done by Olympia Autohaus or Small Car Performance in Fife, with some of the easier work done by myself.
Feel free to email with questions. I'm happy to answer, especially if you've never owned a VW before.
Thank you and be safe out there!
