Vehicle Description
1986 VW Vanagon GL
~220,000 miles
It runs GREAT! We've been using this van for camping trips for the last 7 years and LOVE it. We recently bought a cabin and therefore no longer have much use for it.
Keep in mind this is a 36 year old vehicle! Yes it sounds like a jet engine, yes it lacks luxuries like power windows and functioning interior lights, yes it has some idiosyncrasies! But that's the fun of owning a VW Vanagon :)
The good:
Rebuilt engine in 1996 according to maintenance records from previous owner.
Original seats, upholstery, etc. All in great shape.
Custom carpet kit installed in 2015
Rebuilt alternator, breaks, replaced some wiring and computers (I have the paperwork for exactly what was done) all in the last 7 years.
Replaced rear door hydraulic in 2016
New tires in 2018
New hitch in 2018
Only ever driven in summer (no salt/snow/winter)
New sound system (cd player, radio and speakers) in 2015
A/C worked when I bought it, but we disconnected it to get better performance from the engine. I haven't tried using it in years.
The bad:
Fuel dashboard indicator does not work. Keep track of gas level by resetting the trip odometer. You can go about 200 miles on one tank but we fill up every 150-175 miles.
Something draws on the battery so we installed a kill switch. Works great, you just need to remember to use it anytime you park it for a while.
Some interior lights don’t work, we just installed battery powered lights which work fine.
Some dents, rust, etc. It's 36 years old :)
What's Included:
Set of drawers that double as a bench seat
Cross bars/rooftop bars
Custom fit magnetic window screens for front windows
New interior panels that I intended to re-cover with fabric and install. I never got around to doing it, but they will come with the van.
What's NOT Included:
The awning
