Vehicle Description
Hello, I am selling my 2001 Volkswagen GTI. It’s a 2-Door, 5 Speed Manual with the 1.8L Turbo. I’ve owned it for just over a year and has served as my daily driver, putting about 8,000 Miles on it since I first purchased it. Whenever I bought it, it was fairly rough, but I’ve taken the time to keep it running and fix a few things the previous owner neglected through a bit of DIY.
It runs and drives well, the engine still has plenty of power, the clutch and transmission still feels solid and hasn’t slipped once yet, and it brakes quite well with no noisiness.
As for features: It has leather seating, optional 17” Santa Monica style wheels, the Premium audio system option, an aftermarket Bluetooth stereo, heated seats, power mirrors, windows and sunroof. It comfortably seats 4 (I am 6’ and can find a comfortable seating position with plenty of legroom and headroom) and can seat 5. Whenever you fold the back seats down, there is plenty of cargo room for everything as I’ve used it to carry a small kayak, large instruments, and suitcases. I usually average about 20 MPG City, and 26 on the Highway. The 1.8T engine and manual transmission makes it a fun commuter, being fairly good on gas but still very fun whenever I go on backroads and over to Central Washington over the pass on the weekends.
Here’s what all I’ve worked on and have had done over the year that I’ve owned it:
—(October 2018) Wiring harness specifically relating to blowing Fuse #13 that controls the power windows, sunroof, and interior lighting. These did not work whenever I first bought the car, and is a common issue with Mark IV VWs. The soldering work has been done well and hasn’t shown any signs of failure yet.
The diverter valve (Blowoff valve) was replaced from a Forge Valve to an OEM replacement. The Forge valve was installed by the previous owner and was defective and caused it to throw a check engine light code.
—(Nov. 2018) Aftermarket stereo installed by BestBuy, as there was no stereo when I bought it.
—(Dec. 2018) Aftermarket LED lights installed in map lights.
I replaced the sunroof motor switch after the original has broken.
—(Jan. 2019) I replaced the battery in the Key Fob and reset the program for the Fob as it wasn’t working.
—(May 2019) All 4 tires replaced by Firestone on JBLM, with Potenza Sport All Seasons at around 145,000 miles.
—(Aug. 2019) Oil change and recommended Turbo hose replacement done by VW of Tacoma, at around 147,000 miles.
—(Sept. 2019) Both running light bulbs replaced after left headlight went out.
The drivers side window switches were replaced after the left window switch was broken.
As for it’s current issues and what’s wrong with it,
—It’s currently showing the Check Engine light code as seen in pictures because it has a small oil leak that was brought to my attention by VW of Tacoma, as I have a habit of usually checking for oil spots on the ground before I drive. They told me I haven’t noticed anything on the ground because the leak is minor and slow. It doesn’t affect the drivability, but you are more than welcome to bring a jack to look at it closer.
—There are noticeable scratches and minor dents along the car from the previous owner, on the bottom left front quarter panel, along the passenger side door, along the passenger side hood, and along the rear bumper. I’ve tried my best to get these less noticeable, with washing and waxing my car twice a week, but they’ve gone well past the clear coat.
—The windshield has had a crack on the lower part of it, as seen in the pictures. It doesn’t affect visibility or the integrity.
—The battery will need to be replaced soon, as it has gone dead after not starting and driving the car after 3 days or so.
—The glove box hinges, and center armrest hinges are broken.
—Some of the interior panels are faded from its age.
If you are serious and interested, please feel free to send me a text or email with both provided. (Please do not call at first, because I receive multiple spam calls a day and may not be able to differentiate between a spam call and someone interested in the car.)
Please come with cash, and I’ll come with a clean title in hand.
I’m willing to meet at the visitors center on JBLM, or somewhere in Lakewood.
Thank you!
